Tips for a 6km town run in bad weather?

So I am rather nervous.... I had three challenges when I started the course. One was to graduate which is done and the second was to complete the town run without stopping. This is happening tomorrow at 10am and the weather report shows thunder, lightening and heavy rain!!!

I have not run 6km before, my previous best being 5.2km in 35mins. Neither have I run in a race of 500 people before and finally, I certainly have never run in a downpour.

Does anyone have any tips?

Not really tips kingfisher except to set your own pace and get comfortable in it and just say running in the rain is awesome !!

So long as I remember there is a hot shower and cup of tea at the end who knows I may even speed up!

Take it steady , give yourself rests, say after every 2k take it slower for a minute, and you will be fine. The rain will cool you down. I did the Eden HM in thunder and lightning and it made me feel so alive it was exhilarating... Good luck :)

That would be alive in the sense that you did not get hit by lightening then or did the closeness of the thunder make you run even harder?! :) Thanks for the tips.

To try to keep warm and dry while you are waiting for the start of the race, many people wear a black bin liner (simply cut head and arms holes). Just discard this in a bin, or even at the side of the road where you are standing and the marshalls will clear it up.

Good idea. I might try this. Thanks

Now Paul, if I get one of these I am going to have to have another challenge of running fast enough that it comes off. Lol.

Lol, that may help you to not only complete it but get a PB as well :)

No tips, just my very best wishes for a great run, a good time and a hot cuppa at the finish line :)

in reply toAncientMum

Thanks - out of those three I suspect a hot cuppa is what will keep me going!
