“Breathless” - Consolidation Run 3, Friday 17th October.
As Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Breathless” came on my playlist I was amazed how my musical choices matched my physical state. I really wasn’t in the mood for a run, especially because I knew that I had to get it done quickly as we needed to be away in the campervan by mid-morning for a weekend in the Lake District. I’d decided that a 3k/20 minute run was the best option but, as I wanted to push it a bit I chose a route with more ups and downs than usual. I covered the 3k in 21mins 11secs - slower paced than usual but that didn’t surprise me given the change of route. I found it hard going and ended up Breathless.
“I Wasn’t Expecting That” - Consolidation Run 3.5, Saturday 18th October.
Lake District, lovely morning, 8k walk to Windermere planned. 3k into the walk and I realised I’d dropped my GPS device when I took my jacket off because I was getting hot. I knew exactly where I had done this - 2k back down the hill!! So off I set - running the full 2k in walking boots and other walking gear! Retrieved the GPS device and the reverted to week 2/3 interval running/walking back up the hill. So the 8k walk turned into a longer journey than planned but I could not have run that 2k if it hadn’t been for the C25k programme.
“God Knows I’m Feeling Alive” - Consolidation Run 4, Monday 20th October.
Back to a planned run and, just as I entered the final 500m of a 5k run Tom Waits started singing “Ol’ 55” (or in my case Ol’ 65) in which one of the early lines is “God knows I’m feeling alive”. Once again, my music matched the physical state I was in and, this time, the emotional/psychological place I am at as well. It was a lovely morning (as the photo I took on the run shows) and I felt really good and back in the groove. I did the 5k in 33mins 41secs and really enjoyed it.
Enjoy your running as well folks - it really is good for both body and soul.
