Running in the rain

W8R3 done! It was a soggy day and the only thing that pushed me out the door today was because I wanted to complete my runs for the week. I’m glad I did it!

It started off quite depressing but once I got going, the rain was forgotten. It was really important for me to get used to running in all kinds of weather given that winter will soon be approaching.

On to week 9 on Monday so please keep your fingers 🤞🏽for me that I succeed in concluding the program as injury brought an end to that dream last year....

I’d like to encourage others still on the journey from week 1-8, just keep in mind that you are stronger than you think!! Good luck to us all! ☺️

Congratulations on completing run 3 of week 8 in the rain, those were 3/28 minute runs, only 3/30 minute runs of the final week of C25K until you graduate, good luck for your graduation run 🏃🏾 😊

Thank you! I bought special socks for the final 3 runs of the program 😉

I’m really glad I’ve come this far and hoping to join the group of graduates next week! I still can’t believe it....

Special socks? Do tell!

Haha! I’ve got you guessing☺️ It’s a pair of Merino feetures Running socks, more expensive than I’d like, but they don’t slip into my running shoes..... now to think of a graduation present/birthday since my birthday is a few days after graduation 😂

That was something to admire...28 minutes on the rain, well done! Ill start week 8 next week, i am keeping my fingers crossed ill be able to complete it. Now put your fit up and relax for the rest of the weekend. You did fantastic.

Im sure you will be able to complete week 9 next week, dont think about that injury, it was just bad luck!

I’ve loved this journey, although hard sometimes. Running in Langdon hills meant that every route I took, there was a hill! I had to redo week 7 because I just could not complete the course without stopping. Changed my route and voila!

It is the supportive network (like you) on this platform that keeps me going. I’m just encouraged that people from all walks can get together to motivate one another.

I’ll be sure to post when I’ve finally completed!

Well done QueenBols 😀 and 🤞for next week.

And thanks for the encouragement. My wife and I have just finished week 1 and whilst we have amazed ourselves in getting this far, some of the later runs look rather daunting. It's great when you see someone who has been through the same journey and is still so positive 👍

Thanks Tank_EG . You are going to amaze yourselves, just watch! How do you go from 5 mins to 20 you’ll say; however, when you get there you’ll was this me?😆

It’s not always easy sometimes but when it got hard, I just kept telling myself (in line with my footsteps), I- can- do- this (which simply counted 1, 2, 3, 4) until the mind gremlins disappeared😊.

Three of the greatest takeaways from this platform are- Trust the program, go slow (slower than your slow if possible 😆) & you are stronger than you think!

Keep going and we’ll be looking out for you!

Good Luck!

Well done. I have the same issue as you, wanting to finish Week 8 Run 3 today but it is due to rain all day. I have done early morning runs but wasn't up for it today. I will try this afternoon, fingers crossed it will go well.

I hope the rain eases up for you today. When I looked at the forecast yesterday it was set to rain all day for 3 days so I decided to just go otherwise my target completion date is pushed to another week. Luckily, I had some waterproofs I could wear (without overheating😂) and off I went.

I was encouraged when I saw I wasn’t the only one out there in the rain running.

It wasn’t nice to begin with but soon forgot it 5 mins into the run. At least it wasn’t a torrential downpour but a steady light rain.

If you see a window in the forecast just go if you can. Like you, I like running early so this also propelled me to get out when I did.

Good luck for today! 🤞🏽🤞🏽

Thanks, I have a very light water proof bought to use for holidays in hot climates. That will do perfectly :-). It has rained a little on an earlier run and that was just fine. I shall see how many other runners I meet. It is just nice to get out as well rather than be stuck inside! I don't have a set finish date however, it will take what it takes but likely to beginning of w/c 12th of October now. I like to give myself at least 2 days rest between runs to fully recover.

I don’t have a set date per se but should finish next week Saturday with my 3 runs ( mon, wed & sat).... See you at the finish line, we are almost there 😂.......

Done my run. Had initially thought I'd go this afternoon but then I thought at about 11.30 that it's only a light drizzle and I can squeeze my run in before lunch. I choose the same route as for week 8 run 1 because it went really well then, however it was dry at that time. This route is partly along a field boundary and a bridle way and partly on roads. Needless to say I had to be careful with all the mud. A new experience since I'd normally have boots or wellies under those conditions. It went really well though, almost as good as last time!

OMG! That’s fantastic!!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Job done ✅

Now for the rest period- you’ve earned it!

Isn’t it just amazing that through the challenges (weather and all 😉) we show grit.....

Now, we’re on to our final week! Yippee!!!

Looking ahead, we’ll soon be consolidating our runs and off to the next running goal- good luck!!

Thanks for your kind words! Yes looking forward to rest from running and will pick a 'safer' route next time to be sure. Also it is 30 min so I have a tiny bit more flexibility in routes to choose and will pick one going partly along the edge of a park which will be nice ;-). What's your next goal? I had hoped to do Park Run first time ever but not sure what's happening with that now.

JohannaJ i’ve been signed up to parkrun for years but just walk or volunteer as tail walker☺️ Looking forward to going back and doing a full 5k run! I hope they come back sometime this year because we need it ...

Next goal is to increase my distance to 10K but that won’t be for a while so I’ll try to enjoy our current achievements for a little while longer 😉

I think I am quite happy with 5k bit would like to work on my technique/speed. I have been involved with Junior Parkrun for many years but never Parkrun. My son used to run that one. He is now 11 so we can both start Parkrun together and he can run his own speed:-).

Sounds like a plan ☺️... I’ve tried everything to get my kids involved and they are just not interested! They are now teenagers and definitely don’t want to be seen with their (uncool) mum 😂

Once we complete this, I am thinking of making 1 run per week an interval session to consolidate and increase my speed. Hopefully this will help with getting me a little faster.... good luck this week 🤞🏽

It’s amazing to hear everyone going out in the awful wind and rain we are having. You and others have done brilliantly 😃

Like you I am on week 9 and hoping to finish next week. I did W9R1 on Tuesday and been on the injury couch again! Resting a quad muscle injury☹️.

I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for you, take it easy and enjoy your last week.

Would love to hear how you go. Good luck 🤞🏻💪🏃‍♀️

You’re so close and hope you heal up fast!

Thanks for your well wishes and definitely keeping fingers 🤞🏽!

I definitely intend to take it easy over the next 3 runs and I’ll be sure to provide an update at the end of the week!

Stay well and hope you’re back out soon 👍🏽

Well done! Nearly there! Did my first proper run in the rain this weekend and loved it, it made me feel alive! Like you I'd been avoiding running in the wet, but I'll now go out whatever the weather.
