Week 9, run 3... Completed

So, having nearly been ran over the other day I decided on drastic action and bought a high visibility top. Head phone in on low volume, feeling apprehensive I set off.

In the approaching evening gloom, on a day which has been dull and full of mizzle I left the flat at a walk with Sophie Alice Better Young Blood playing. I struggled the first ten minutes to get pace and breathing but it settled down into a slow running speed and Hugh Laurie's John Henry playing. Then a bit slower, as I hot the slope between flood meadows and the main road into town. I hit the Butts with The Importance of Being Idle and with 10 minutes left I managed to relax into a good pace, then turned round and ran in bright pink jacket and probably equally pink face to Hugh Laurie's Six Cold Feet then Until the stars Collide. Round the back of the shops my timer for walking kicked in and a second later U2's Sweetest Thing came on to celebrate completing the run and graduation.

Including the cool down and warm up I ran Distance: 4.19km, time: 42:41, pace: 10:12min/km, speed: 5.89km/h according to map my run. Slow, but seeing that at school I could never run much to run half an hour non stop in my mid 30s seems an achievement.

Now to have a bath, cup of tea and sort out the randomness of my play list.

Graduation present running shoes have been bought on anticipation. I had gait analysis at the shop.

Well done! Fantastic achievement and you should be rightly proud of yourself! From here, the running world is your lobster so enjoy where it takes you. I found that I needed to be consistent and make running part of my routine; not going mad to begin with, consolidating so that was running 5k regularly then looking for a goal and working towards it gradually to help avoid injury. Huge congratulations ... go get your Graduation badge! :-)

Keep it up and work on stamina I think. Stick at 30 minutes for another couple of weeks then build it up slowly. Long term, being Northern, I would love to try the Great North Run...but that is in the future

Yay Congratulations Nell. Well done you on graduating.

Love the shocking pink top. I have neon orange trainers which would clash beautifully with that lol xxx

She did it!!!

Congratulations, a special day.

I love a random play list of all my favourite music, although it can knock you off the pace.

Keep running, keep smiling.

I should say, and meant to thank you to the community members. Even when I haven't posted it was reassuring to feel you aren't alone with the struggles on the runs, the ability to laugh at ourselves when we fall over, cheer ourselves on when we manage and just, in general know it's okay to be a snail, have a practice run or just have someone to help us fight the gremlins which hide in shoes, in the bushes by the paths and sometimes sit on your shoulder.

I love this community πŸ˜ƒ
