It’s not often that I say I didn’t enjoy a run; but I knew as soon as I started running that I wasn’t feeling it. No particular reason. (Although it was dark, chilly, raining and the air quality didn’t feel good!)
My plan for this morning was to run for 30 minutes which for me would be about 4K. After pushing myself on Tuesday for a fast kilometre time, it seemed the sensible thing to do - so no personal records broken on this run.
When I set out for my warm up walk, dawn was nothing but a promise - but, hey! I had my brand new chest torch to fight the darkness! I managed to work out how the strap worked (major achievement!). It has a red light on the back, as well! Very pleased with it.
So off I go in the rain. It really was a tick box exercise. The Deadend Track seemed to have doubled in length since I last ran along it. I was going to try for negative splits, but although my first km was pretty slow, I couldn’t even manage that today.
So ✂️ I cut myself some slack, listened to Santana and plodded on through the run. Waterproof jacket kept my top half dry and my peaked hat kept the rain off my glasses, so it wasn’t all bad!
When I got back, I realised that I was, in fact, pleased I went out and although I didn’t much enjoy the run itself, I got up early and went out for a 4 kilometre run in the rain! ☔️

There will always be runs that feel like 'duty' Jools - but you got out there anyway so big tick. ✔️ Plus, you seem to have got all your kit sorted, so that's a plus too! Enjoy your day! 🙂
Yes, there is something about autumn 🍂 rain ☔️ that is wetter, deeper, mustier than summer rain. And that feels like it makes getting out there that little bit harder, so we’ll done!!
It’s my workout today, so looking out the window at the wet weather 🌧 , I feel lucky to have escaped a wet run, but tomorrow will come soon!
Well done! There should be a “running in challenging weather” badge!
Well done for getting out. I started and abandoned due to a tweak in my hamstring which I picked up right at the end of my last run😢 am going to stretch and have a hot bath and try again later this evening😞
Sorry to hear about the hamstring - not good, I hope it eases for later,
I had no problem getting out there - it was literally as soon as I started running. Stress played a big part, I’m sure, so I just knuckled down and did what I could. I thought if I got to 4K that would be neat and tidy and I would be satisfied with that this morning! Plumber came early and I’ve persuaded him to start Couch to 5K 😀
I went out yesterday evening after failing to prise myself out of bed after a lousy nights sleep. It felt ok until the rain started, a light drizzle at first, then ever heavier.
I had planned on a 5k and normally I don't mind the rain but thought to myself "what on earth are you doing you crazy woman?" and just stopped after 3.8k.
Mind you I think I got wetter by walking back than if I had carried on running!
Thank you! I was tempted to stop at 3K, but I knew that I would be disappointed in myself as I had planned for a 30 minute run and 4K. I turned up my music and would not listen to the 3K gremlin! Santana rules!
Haha, you are spot on! I don’t give up easily. I wavered at 3K, but forced myself to carry on. My plan was 30 minutes and 4K! I’m already looking forward to my slow run on Saturday 😀
Hey Jools2020! You went out and you ran! You’re right, you should be pleased with yourself. 🤗 Some runs just don’t hit that spark, but thankfully they’re still a run that’s done and when you’re next out it will be a new and whole different experience. But one thing is for sure is that every run is a win!! And 17 post graduation runs is always something to be proud of.
You did a great job going out there! Enjoy the rest and your next run! 😁❤️
Thank you so much 😊. You are right! I’m looking forward to my next run. Saturdays I do a long, slow run, which I love. Thanks for the much needed boost 🙂❤️
You got up and out there, so well done you and any run is better than no run, it all contributes to improving your fitness. The weather sounds pretty dreary but you battled through and got it done.....my turn tomorrow morning 😯 hope I get better weather than you had 🏃♂️
