5k or 30 minutes?

I graduated on Sunday and have never mapped a run so have no idea how to make sure I do 5k. I've download an app but do I need to start it after my 5 min warm up? But worried about the need for fumbling with phone into holder when I should be running. Also a bit scared to find out how short a distance I've been doing up to now!

well done on your graduation , don't forget to claim your Graduate badge!

you can track your runs in different ways, as you say, you can use an app but also as you say you would need to start it recording at the end of your warm up walk and stop it after you finish running .

the other way is of course to invest in a running watch !

i use a Garmin watch and then after my run the data is then uploaded to the strava app.

i wouldn't worry too much about the distance your running though , we all run different distances at graduation , my graduation run was 3.9K without the warm up and cool down walks

I do actually own a Samsung watch but have never been confident about using it - I'll dig it out! In the end today I used map my run and measured 3.35 k but that included the walks. I was very unfit when I started and am really pleased to be able to run for 30 minutes - I've now downloaded the c25k+ to use during consolidation. Hoping I'll get to 5k eventually!

I've been using a running app alongside the C25K app to track my runs, because I think it'll be fun in the long term to have a history going back to the very beginning of my speed etc. Plus the app tracks how much I've used my brand new running shoes so I'll know when they 'expire' :)

I've found I usually need about 10 seconds to put my phone back in its pouch, so you could try to start the app when the countdown to run is about there and then put it away?

Running shoes expire? After how long?!

It seems about 400 miles is what many apps use.

Lol - I've got a way to go then!

Mine (Runkeeper) says 400 kilometers. My new shoes are supposed to be extra durable so they'll apparently last 500-600k

Congratulations on graduating! 🎉🙆‍♀️🎊 I use an app called map my run. It has a delayed start which I set for 5 mins and it sounds when it's time to run. It's a handy app because it also tracks other activities such as road biking
