Having read Instructor57βs post this morning was inspired. Thought to myself βI can do thatβ after increasing my pace and distance over the last 5/6 weeks.π±π
Got in the car, parked up at a new route. Completed my warm up, 5 minute walk and off I went. Far too fast so gave myself a talking to and slowed down. Got into the rhythm and settled down. Reached my 3.5k marker and turned around ( the plan was to do between 6 and 7k). Got to 6k fairly uneventfully, which I have done a few times and then made 7k, couple of cheers and then checked the time. Decided to push on to 60 mins, made it - yippee ππ. Cool down walk, stretches and back home for a banana and coffee.
Still in shock that this old person can run for 60 minutes.

Congratulations - that's a great achievement! But if you're a relatively new graduate please be careful not do too much too soon. And increasing distance AND pace at the same time (certainly deliberately) is definitely not to be recommended.
Be careful to limit your weekly increase in time (always better to focus on time than distance or pace) to approximately 10% (the '10% rule').
Thank you for your comments and please be assured at my age I am trying to be very careful. I graduated on 24th June running 4.34 km (30 mins) and worked up to my 1st 5k on 10th July in a time of 38.13. Then mixed it up a bit and achieved my 1st 6k on 31st July running for 48.24 mins. Worked on time after that gradually increasing until today and ran 7.21k in 1 hour and 27 seconds. In your opinion do you think that is ok. Would really like to have your opinion as I do worry about overdoing it. Thanks.
Iβm not pushing it... Iβm on my 16th consolidations run and just taking it easy... mixing up shorter faster ... some 5k and some slow longer runs...
Brilliant - well done! Isn't it a wonderful feeling. I think us not so young runners benefit from feeling confident that our bodies are still capable of so much!
Well done Hareshaw-Granny, this is Amazing...βοΈ itβs given me something to think about for the next stage later on. 60 minutes, thatβs a long old time, but 30 seemed impossible at the start of this programme. C25k is Amazing, again very Well done βοΈ
Thank you, but what can I say this programme is amazing. It really works and the old chestnut if I can do it anyone can. Seemed like a very natural progression. Perfect weather which always helps.
Wow, well done! I have run for over an hour, but I wouldnβt even attempt it at that pace! Hell, Iβd be pleased with that pace for 30 minutes π I couldnβt keep it up, for sure.
Aww thanks Jools, regarding pace I really tried to slow right down and that seems the best I can do. It felt really good and am now enjoying a few glasses of Malbecπ·π·. Who knows what's next, I think I probably wΓ²nt go much further.
You can do anything you want to! Iβm working on the slow runs for stamina, so Iβll eventually be able to speed up and hold my best pace for longer. My pace on those slow runs is about 10:30 I think. It will take a while, so itβs a longer term plan. I do intend to get faster!
