Stinking horrid run!

Week 9 run 1 and I struggled every minute of it! Horrible! Didn’t drink enough yesterday and felt it in my calves, my lungs were great which is reassuring but my legs, nope! I struggled all the way to the 30 minute mark with an extra 60 seconds Cos I’m a sadist and I swear I wanted to collapse to the floor.

My pace looked exactly the same as the day fore yesterday so no faster than usual,

Purely the calves and the mind battling with me. Woke from a deep sleep at 5.30 and wanted to sleep til 9 at least but battled that too and got up straight away! Didn’t even have a coffee x hoping the next one isn’t like this or I shall be only be doing these 30 min runs and dropping my times once I graduate! Really bad run 🥺

Don’t beat yourself up we all have off days. I only ran 3k this morning instead of my usual 5. You still actually ran for 31 mins so that in itself is brilliant.

in reply toPMcL1966

Thankyou I’m just used to feeling like I could skip home once I stop the jogging part but today, wow! I did start remembering all the past runs especially the first few weeks in and how hard they were and how far I have come but I am praying it gets easier or more comfy next run x I don’t want to ever stop running! X

I wanted to stop running today especially after stopping at 3k. But I’ll be back out on Sunday.

in reply toPMcL1966

Yeah me too most likely x just stinks some days doesn’t it? I bet you felt like you hadn’t done anything really after 3 k and I would love to run that distance x lol x

You are being too hard on yourself... you got up... you ran...for 31mins!!!! That’s a huge achievement in itself x

in reply tocarolinestanford

Thankyou x I suppose I get off on the buzz after and it didn’t happen and I missed it lol x

Well done for getting out there and finishing when it was so terrible. I had a run like this on Tuesday. Motivation is 0 for getting out today. 25 minutes nearly killed me off. I’m off out right now though.... as long as we keep trying we will succeed 👍

in reply toMagicfairy11

Yes that’s right x we won’t fail if we try! I just usually feel so much more bouncy at the end of my jogs, today knocked me sideways, I’m going to drink loads now until I run again and do some light beginner yoga see if the stretching helps aswell. It’s the time of the month aswell and I haven’t had much sleep so all could be contributing to this terrible run. But someone on here said “tough run, even tougher runner” and that was my mantra this morning! X

‘I’m going faster than the ones still in bed’ is my mantra 😆

Yes yes yes!!!! Lapping those on the sofa too! 🧡

I think you did absolutely brilliantly! The 'bad' runs are much tougher than the 'feeling good' ones.... and you still smashed it... plus you added a extra minute! You are so going to nail this week! 👍🏻🏃‍♀️🤗

Aw thanks x it was totally yuck and my

Thighs are hurting now too which is it usual, I will take it though if it means I learn to drink and sleep more before the next one haha x

All that and you still did it which is amazing 👍

Some days it just doesn’t go the way you plan but as you say, so much better than others who can but don’t.

Keep up the good work - you’ve got this 💪🏃‍♀️

in reply to61Lady

Thankyou x I just hope the next two are more pleasurable and I end the programme with a smile and not a grimace haha x

Please don't fret. You've identified the culprit. - lack of water. The next run will be better. We all get less than perfect runs, but it's often difficult to tell when it's going to be a struggle, so rather unpredictable! I suppose if we knew it was going to be a tough one we wouldn't leave the house, so it's always a bit of an adventure!

Keep hydrated and get out there next time without telling yourself any stories about how it might go!

in reply toRoxdog

Yes I def need more drinks x I was stupid and only had around 2 pints of squash the whole day and some coke? Madness for me! I am making up for it today and tomo now back to my usual 2.5 litres x thanks xx

You ran for 31 minutes - it might have been gruesome but it was still time in your legs that is making you a stronger runner. I went through a phase of having crap runs and then suddenly something clicked and the magic happenned. It sounds like you've found your happy pace already and this was just a bad one - so that is absolutely brilliant!

in reply toFionamags

Aw thanks xx I’m hoping it was a blip, I can honestly say it was the worst one of all my runs, and I am hoping it was just the mind and the lack of hydration factors x hoping for a better one day after tomo!

Dont be hard on yourself. You've certainly had more good days than bad otherwise you wouldn't be where you are now!!

My W9R3 absolutely sucked on Tuesday.

I'm going to go tomorrow for my first consolidation run which will probably be 25-30 minutes (not sure yet!). Today is day 2 of no running which is the longest i've gone without a run since the start of July!

in reply toKish247

Ooh never?? Your graduation run? Aw that’s annoying x but you did it Yey! X good luck for the consolidation run x and it’s good that you’re itching to get out the trainers isn’t it? Addicted hah

Yeah, I'm planning on running whilst away and on my birthday too!!

in reply toKish247

Haha that’s brilliant! I’m like yeah, I totally wanna run on my birthday too! What happened to us? I used to love sitting down on my lovely cosy sofa and sleeping haha

You did it! That's amazing, and even more of an achievement when it was hard. I also learned the hydration lesson the hard way a few weeks ago. Worst run ever. Today I did W9R1 and it was tough but do-able for me, which is probably because I drank my bodyweight in redbush tea yesterday.....!! Hope you can feel good about today when you reflect on it - I try to see it like the hard runs are the ones that teach me the most, and build the grit I need to keep going after graduation. Well done again!

in reply toBexJogs

Yeah the endurance bit is def getting built then I suppose? What does this magical red bush tea do then? X

Well done! No worries your legs will catch up with your lungs soon enough. At this stage the most important part is just going out and deepening the habit. Bad runs happen every so often. And often the next one is a nice run. And your body will adapt over time. Best of luck with your progress!

in reply toDecker

Thankyou x I hope they do catch up it’s yuck x I’m sure it’s mostly not drinking enough yesterday and lack of sleep x onward and upward to the next run!

Yes hydration, nutrition and rest are important. It takes a bit of time to determine what balance works best for you, especially if you move into longer distances later on

I tried my first W9R1 on Tuesday and it was rubbish - but got out this morning and nailed it! I think sometimes we expect too much of ourselves rather than just ‘enjoying’ the run (ha listen to me !!!!).

R2 on Saturday - looking forward to it as I never expected to be able run for 30mins , still can’t quite believe it.

Well done and just keep going , we’re all going to have bad days and good that’s just life 🏃🏽‍♀️🌈

in reply tocoffee1066

Ooh I shall try and run on sat too then we will be in the same place and can think good limber legged thoughts to each other haha x

in reply tocoffee1066

Honestly cannot wait for graduation! X and then I’m like it’s ok to run for as little as I want because I have actually done this programme haha x

I’m new to this so from my perspective you’re doing so well!

in reply toMaxi80

What run are you on?

Maxi80 profile image
Maxi80 in reply to

I’ll be doing W1R3 tomorrow. I need my calves to get a grip!

in reply toMaxi80

Are you drinking loads the day before? I didn’t yesterday and my left calf in particular was off this morning. I’m glugging loads now to catch up and will continue tomo With the two and a half litres to ensure it doesn’t happen again!

Maxi80 profile image
Maxi80 in reply to

I’m pretty good with drinking water. I must be on about 3-4 litres a day. I suspect my calf is crocked because it’s done little since 2005 🙈

in reply toMaxi80

What about your trainers? I over pronate terribly with flat feet and get bad ankles knees and lower back. I have to wear stability trainers x

Maxi80 profile image
Maxi80 in reply to

My shoes are always a lot more worn on the outside so I reckon I probably over-pronate too!

It sounds more like masochism than sadism to me.

But then I'm more into M&S than the other. 😉

in reply tonowster

Oh I don’t know haha x I just know I have to make up the 30 or so seconds it takes me to scoop the poops at the end or I feel like I’m cheating x I feel the entire forum are doing ever single minute of these runs and so should I!

Dorian1 profile image
Dorian1Graduate

Thats not sadism, that masocism, sadism is if you make someone else do it and enjoy watching them suffer, or you run on top of people laid out on the floor or something.

in reply toDorian1

That’s sad and minging fair play lol

Dorian1 profile image
Dorian1Graduate in reply to

Its not because I know all about masochism and sadism from my personal life by the way, those rumours are not true.

Dorian1 profile image

No really, i mean it, they aren't true. Please everyone stop saying this.
