Hi all the jump from 90 seconds of running to 3 minutes was quite a leap. I am trying to avoid running on roads so am doing all my runs in a nearby wood. Trouble is it’s not exactly flat so I think I am making it harder than it needs to be in the early stages. I have done couch to 5k before a few years ago and managed to complete but really struggled with my knees so after completing it I haven’t ran again, hence why I am avoiding roads. Anyone else on their second stab at running?

Yes, it's quite a jump to 3 minutes isn't it!
Woodland running sounds just so lovely! But, no, definitely not the easiest. But if that's what your knee prefers- I'm sure you'll get used to it... and be more nimble for it 😊
I have a long standing meniscus issue in my knee which flares up if I'm not careful. Even though grass running would be better for me in terms of impact, I personally find I'm better or paths - as my knee prefers the stability of flat surfaces. I use a brace when I run too.
Good luck with, and enjoy, the rest of programme.
I have done a lot of runs on brutal fields and woods x I think in the long run (haha) it will benefit me on straight flat surfaces where I will run for longer or with a lower heart rate x the first time I started running (6 years ago) I did every single run on the treadmill, slightly lifting the incline now and again when I remembered and it was the most boring activity ever x much prefer the outdoors as does my doggy and I know it’s doing me good not to run on tarmac all the time too
Although it probably more challenging in the woods, your body will condition to it. Try adding in some exercises to strengthen you knees. I find squats are great and really easy to fit in to daily life. I do them whilst waiting for the kettle to boil
Hi, Most of my runs are through Forest. I think it is harder but i prefer the scenery. Since i got to week 8 and the longer runs ive changed to running around my local lake. Its gravel, flat and no twisty bends and tbh i find it much easier.
I completed W3R3 this morning too. Painful getting out of bed early after a sticky night but so worth it to be out before the heat takes hold. I found today’s run the most difficult of the week but didn’t feel I needed to stop at any point so I’m declaring success on this week! I tend to have two days off between training weeks so will be out again on Tuesday for week 4 (I feel a bit intimidated by that, but I’m just going with the program). Good luck with W4 and to everyone, look after yourselves in the heat!
