Stuck on week 8!

I’ve been stuck on week 8 now for over a week. Pretty sure it’s all in my head but when I hit the 14 minutes mark, I always feel like I need to slow to a walk for a minute or so.

Anyone else the same? Any tips?

You've done so well to get to week 8! I found a few issues around week 7 that I think were more in my head than anywhere else. I'd been running the same route and had various points on the run associated with 'this is the tree where I felt I would collapse on week 5' etc.

I then did the run the other way round to avoid my landmarks and then for weeks 8 and 9 I ran somewhere else as the other route was feeling oppressive.

It wasn't the same difficulty as yours, but I think there are similarities. I would try altering your route so you're not in the same place at 14 minutes. Then its positive thinking and trust the app. It was only Laura telling me that I could do it that meant that I actually did do it!

Good luck and trust the app!

Thank you. I know I can do it because I could do 20 and 25 mins but I honestly think it’s because I know I can stop, that I do 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m my own worst enemy. Will try and trust that I can do it! Am still really enjoying it which. I’m glad about because if I wasn’t, I’d probably call it a day!x

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.

Slowing down to the recommended easy conversational pace makes it more achievable and for most, more enjoyable.

Find a distraction, so you think about anything other than time or the physicality of running.

Design a decent post Covid, post Brexit world that works for everyone..........

For the first half, yes I probably could converse ok but after than no! I do really struggle with slowing down, probably because I’m not going very fast to begin with 😂 I think I’ll try and start off slower next time and take it from there. Still totally enjoying running though which I’m delighted about!

Thanks!

The easy conversational pace equates to approximately 75%. of your maximum heart rate, which is the ideal zone to build stamina and endurance required to run further and faster.

Try clearing your mind of all thoughts, if a thought comes into your head imagine an eraser quickly rubbing it out and blowing it away, try it, it works for me every time. Also before you go out take a look at the You Tube motivational video I use a lot, there’s a link on my Bed to 5k post. You’ll get there.....keep saying to yourself ‘Don’t quit when you’re tired, quit when you’re done’ that can be your new mantra 👊 👍

Thank you, I’ll check it out! Great mantra. I do think because I’m so chuffed that I can run 14 mins, that I happily Walk for 1 Min before running the rest. Going to try harder to stick with and trust the plan!

You’ll get there, forget that 1 minute walk, you don’t need it, that’s psychological, it’s a gremlin on your shoulder, as they like to call it on here, ignore him and keep going 👍
