Today on my consolidation run I decided to try the slow run technique after watching the video several times. I know lots of people here talk about it, the thing is because I didn't come in aching and sweating I feel like I have cheated. I was very mindful about taking small steps and foot placement etc. Why do I feel like I have cheated though, is that method good to use?

Feel like I cheated!
Interesting information thanks. I run slowly & am very aware of how much fitter I feel & how much better I cycle or walk uphill. 😄
Cheated?? No way!! 😄
Once I had completed a month of consolidation, I began to build up to running for an hour (using the timed version of the Magic 10 Program on the bridge to 10 K forum). Slow running technique got me there. Also my slow running now is faster than it was 2 months ago, (without trying, it just happened) - but I still feel slow & comfy. 😄
Thank you I feel much better about doing it now, I think I will continue slow running as it seemed very much more manageable.
It is recommended that C25k is undertaken at an easy conversational pace...........but nobody wants to do that because they think going fast is the best way forward..........whereas the recommended pace equates to approximately 75% of your maximum heart rate, which is the best zone for building the solid aerobic base and stamina required to run further and faster.
The easy conversational pace is the one that elite athletes spend up to 80% of their running time and then pushes hard for the remainder if chasing speed...........whereas the average recreational runner plods on at an intermediate speed, which really is not the most efficient way to develop.
Enter your 5k pb into this TRAINING PACE CALCULATOR runnersworld.com/uk/trainin... and you will probably be surprised how slow it recommends that you run.
Only rookie runners run as fast as they can on every run.
