This morning I went on a "trial run" for a new Parkrun which will open next month. There were a number of volunteers and about 20 runners - who of course, being faster than me all took off and left me way behind. It was in quite a heavily treed area. It was rather a convoluted course with what (I heard) comprised of 3 loops. I kept the front runners in sight for the first loop, then lost sight of them. No probs - I thought - I will just follow the signs -- after I finished the 3 loops (which I thought were quite easy) I ran across the Finish line to what I did notice seemed to be a little amazement on the part of the volunteers there. I also thought "Where is everybody else??"
Yes -- I had inadvertently found and turned into a short cut which the organisers had not thought about -- well, it was supposed to be a trial run to sort out any problems!! My first WIN at Parkrun!!!

Your story took me right back to my hated PE at school when we were sent out on a cross country and being at the back probably not listening, me and the other reluctants set off. The others sped off in the distance and when our group got back to an empty changing room the PE teachers first words were " which way did you lot go?"
Your story did make me laugh and you did do a great service in discovering the short cut. Well done on crossing the line first.
