Week 5 - can anyone explain why after 20 mins of running week 6 will be intervals? Sorry if this is a daft question x
Week 5: Week 5 - can anyone explain why after 2... - Couch to 5K
Week 5
No idea really but all I can say is that the plan absolutely works.
Every run prepares you physically for the next, building on your stamina and endurance, and allows you to progress with minimal risk of injury.
The real challenge is in your head.
Follow and trust in the plan, take your rest days and you will be fine.
W6R1 will be your longest overall duration workout when you get there.
Hi, why is W6R1 the longest duration when it has breaks! I am not up with the science of all this, although I can see it is working!
Can you walk briskly without expending any effort?
Yes. Pretty much! I completed Week 5 run 2 today. I had misunderstood and thought the run today was 5, 8 and 5 minutes... but they were 8 and 8! I didn't know until I'd done the 8 (wondered why 5 minutes seemed so long! Lol!) so, once I knew I had done 8, I knew I could do the next one! (A case of serendipity today!) But, R3 is 4 minutes longer and with no break. I think it is the break that keeps me going! (I'm mildly asthmatic so my legs feel like they can go on longer than my breathing can!) I believe in this plan more each time I run so will give it a good go!
I feel it’s to build your confidence up but not burn your body out by going into 20 mins straight again in week 6. Like others have said the biggest battle is with your head, so getting over this fear of long duration running then going back to your comfort zones with breaks for a while does you the world of good
