Retro Runners - New Theme

Hi all you lovely people.

It’s scorchio here and running is a thing best done in the early hours of the morning and in my case with some music to keep me going.

My last run was dedicated to Kate Bush - specifically ‘running up that hill’ and you can see how I got on here:

jancanrun.com/2020/07/27/we...

But I am in need of a new playlist, and as it’s hot here, I was wondering what is the one track ‘that keeps you cool’.

My first track is Cool Kids by Echosmith.

Do you have any favourite ‘cooling/chilling down’ tracks that we can add to the latest playlist?

As always, the playlist link and tracks will be posted back here in about 3-4 weeks (as usually I get lots and lots of lovely musical ideas)

All that springs to mind today, here in UK, is "Raindrops keep falling in my head..." by Burt Bacharach... not sure that's going to make it to a running list 😅😂🤣

A playlist for today? 😁

Crowded House - Always take the weather with you

Katie Melua - I think it's going to rain today

Prince - Purple Rain

The Beatles - Rain

Supertramp - It's raining again

The Cascades - Rhythm of the rain

Johnnie Ray - Just walkin' in the rain

Eurythmics - Here comes the rain again

Travis - Why does it always rain on me?

Gerard Kenny/Barry Manilow - I made it through the rain

I've been dodging the heavy Mancunian showers today.

Try living in the West of Scotland😱🤣

in reply to Hareshaw-Granny

What I’d kill for some cooling rain - Purple Rain is one of my favourite songs and artists and you’re right West of Scotland does present some rainy challenges!

in reply to nowster

Okay nowster you have to choose just one of them., which is your fave? are you a Barry Fanilow ? Or do you love his purple highness, like I do?

Or can you recall the Nabob of Sob, Mr Ray??

Whichever you choose out of your shortlist can go in, because they all seem cooling down types to me except for Purple Rain maybe...

Johnny Ray's hit was a Christmas Number 1 in the UK (1956). No I'm not that old. 🤪

But if I were to choose one, it'd probably be the Eurythmics. There's something about the clarity of Annie Lennox's voice.

in reply to nowster

Agreed I love Annie Lennox and the Nabob was one of my dad’s favourites..., so Here comes the rain again is in...

"Singin' in the Rain" always make me smile. Found myself singing it during my only run in the rain so far! That was maybe six weeks ago; it's currently 37° outside...

in reply to Cmoi

I know what you mean it was about 31/32 degrees when I wrote the post. Last week we had 41, so it goes on the list

Then there is always "It's raining men..." by the WeatherGirls... I'd run to that hahahaha....

Ah! The Scorcio Time! Greetings from the other side of Adriatic, the land of hot weather and fierce mosquitoes. I've switched from early to late in the day runs, feels better for me. A few days ago the morning heat was savage as I decided to run on the sunny, windless side. Loved it thought! Enjoy your time there!

in reply to mrrun

Hi

Yup we share the mosquito pain. We also have other little blighters called pappatacci.

Smaller than the holes in our mosquito nets, they feed at night and hate daylight. Microscopic Draculas, so that’s putting me off running in the evening. I’m rubbish at getting up in the morning, but think its marginally better than being fly food...

Enjoy the heat whilst we have it!

Pappataccis made their way across the Adriatic sometime ago. I developed a bad reaction to their bites in 2014. I suppose I got immune since. Little buggers are vicious.

in reply to mrrun

Ouch. I don’t get a reaction just utterly p..d off when they bite.

It was when I asked our local zanzariere could I get smaller mesh and he smiled ruefully....

Talking of microscopic Draculas, ever been on the West coast of Scotland on a summer evening? Midges galore!

in reply to nowster

Yes - been there done that, got the scars to prove it....

Love the blog!!!! 👍

Oh and almost 5k up and down a hill! You’re a legend! 👏👏

in reply to Tinytears60

No legend, just a runner who started here. But I love the running (honest) and I like writing so it’s a bit of fun... which reminds me another post for yesterday’s run is due to be done.

Thanks you so much for your kind comments on my blog, it helps keep me at that too.
