Well it’s been scorchio, here in Italy and I’ve had the mother of all migraines lasting for a full 6 days this month, which slightly compromised my running plan to say the least. But I made a promise that another playlist would be started, so here we go:-
This is Disco Divas - any female artist either solo or lead in a group, can be part of the playlist, she just has to make you want to get up and shake your thang/thing/thung...
Anyone who has any ideas for adding to my playlist, please let me know. The ‘rules’ are – it can be a female soloist or lead of a group. For example, Gladys Knight and The Pips would be fine, but had Gladys been a pip and the group called Gerald Knight and the Pips, then she wouldn’t make the cut. Oh and one decided exception, under no circumstances will Gloria Gaynor/I Will Survive be permitted. Any other Gloria songs are fine, just not that one.
Here’s my playlist, so far - all suggestions welcome (bar the 'I Will Survive’ horror) and I’ll release it into the wilds of running country by the beginning of next month.
Respect – Aretha Franklin
What’s Love Got To Do With It – Tina Turner
I Wanna Dance With Somebody – Whitney Houston
I’m Every Woman – Chaka Khan
I’m So Excited – The Pointer Sisters
Lady Marmalade – Patti LaBelle
Hot Stuff – Donna Summer
Ain’t Nobody – Rufus and Chaka
Young Hearts Run Free – Candi Staton
Jump – The Pointer Sisters
He’s The Greatest Dancer – Sister Sledge
Don’t Leave Me This Way – Thelma Houston
Forget Me Nots – Patrice Rushen
Ring My Bell – Anita Ward
Boogie Oogie Oogie – A Taste of Honey
And if you want to know my latest exploits - this was today’s run:-
I had some early Michael Jackson hits come up whilst running today like Don't Stop Til You Get Enough. Fantastic.

Michael will have to wait his turn I think - I almost have the rest of the year’s playlists mapped out now, but agreed he deserves some toons somewhere...
I don’t have any disco that springs to mind... but a band that I believe were all 15/16 year old girls at the time are on my playlist. The band is Kittie and the song is Do You Think I’m a Whore.
Thanks for the suggestion, but as I’m creating a Disco Diva list, which is more Aretha, Whitney, Gloria etc, so Kittie doesn’t make the cut on this particular list. Having never heard of it, I played it and I’m not sure what genre it is. But if I do a list that fits this one, then they’re in
In a rather sad coincidence, Aretha was my first pick track with Respect. I’m thinking Mr JB has to be on a Soul Kings list - that is definitely on my to do list too. So many lists to create so little time!
I'm definitely going to need this playlist soon as I've signed up for a Half marathon in October so need to get back into training for longer runs again. I'm now bored of my routes and bored of my music!
Ooh - wellI think I’ve got most of them in now... Will Wednesday or Thursday do? There’s about a 4 hour mix....
Wow well done you on half marathon sign up - I’m delaying all that until next year now. But I know what you mean about boredom on music and routes, the longer runs really take their toll on maintaining interest.
It’s still scorchio here - in fact am typing this in a bikini (TMI!). Hoping for cooler weather so I can get some longer runs in - but fact is 10/11km is as much as I can manage at present.
Take care and I promise the list in next couple of days
Hi Hidden ...sorry for the delayed response, I’m usually first there but it’s a hard life laid on a sunbed, watching the kids play in the pool!! So I saw your post & this is the hardest thing I’ve done today...thinking of my suggestions so here goes:-
Denise Williams -let’s hear it for the boy
Diana Ross - chain reaction
Gloria Estefan - The rhythm is gonna get you
Madonna - Borderline
Taylor Dane - tell it to my heart
Chaka Khan - Chaka Khan
Bananarama - Cruel Summer, He was really sayin something
Hope you’re ok Jan and your running continues to be fantastic xxx
Denise, Diana, Taylor all already in - we have such similar tastes! And the rest are on the way... . Running is okayish - most people have toddlers and the terrible twos, my terrible is the terrible thirteens! Can't wait to hit 1400km and hopefully the run-in will ease a bit.. Glad to hear your life is particularly hard - all that sunbed testing and watching kids in pools - it’s tough and you deserve that hard sentence! Especially if it comes with a glass of vino or two. Much love JCR X
