I ate too many crisps

Im going for my first run tonight in 4 weeks because of lots of unfortunate events. Im psyching myself out though... how much of an impact do you think that will have? Will I still be able to run 5k? I know it doesn't matter really, its the running itself that matters, im just upset that I've left it this long.

I have also comfort ate for 4 weeks and have gained 3 pound in crisps haha not the end of the world but also annoying after losing over 3 stone this year.

Anyone else had a slump? Did it take you long to recover?

Welcome back. The only way to see what you have in the tank is to go run... keep it nice and comfortable and see where you get to. The first two weeks of not running will have had no impact on your fitness and after that it’s a gradual decline. Depending on where you were with your training, you may have had a fitness level above that which would give a comfortable 5k, or maybe that 5k had you finishing on empty... so there’s going to be a lot of variation between runners.

Don’t look back... don’t regret anything in the last few weeks... you’re back and that’s all that matters. Set some goals and work towards them just like before... you can achieve anything.

Have a wonderful comeback run.

Thats exactly what I needed to hear, thanks so much for the encouragement - it means a lot. Onwards and upwards!

Don’t worry about the 3lbs. Your body naturally will be a couple of lbs heavier at the end of the day compared to the morning anyway. So in real terms it’s very little you’ll have put on. I’m sure it’ll take you no time at all to get back to where you were. Just keep the jogging light and remember to keep breathing. I’m sure you’ll be fine.

Thanks for that, its daft isn't it how much you catastrophise? I saw the scale and thought there was no return lol remember to keep breathing is also a top tip because I do forget to do that a lot!

Thanks for your kind words, much appreciated and will fuel my run tonight x

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I just did my second run this week and have managed 3.5k each time so I can see 5k on the horizon very soon, all your kind words really pushed me to go for it, I almost forgot how much I've grown to love running, I am hooked for sure xxx
