So just ran week9 run1 first 30min run wow looking back at the start never thought I'd be able to do that! Last time I ran like that I was back at school & everything was black & white! 2 questions is normal while running for the bottom part of the legs to ache, when I first started Omg the knees unreal but they have eased & secondly as I say ran 30mins but Google fit app saying I've only run 2.73 miles which is 4.394km so I'm not hitting the 5k is this normal or will. I speed up in time?

It’s normal. Most people don’t hit 5k in 30 minutes by the end of the program.

I hear speed builds with time - I’m yet to find out as I only finished last week. I’m also at around 4.4km in the 30 minutes.

Only a small proportion of graduates from this forum who responded to a poll, managed 5k in 30 minutes by graduation healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

Graduation requirements are that you complete three thirty minute runs, regardless of distance.

Hi Fluff50 , well done for completing your first 30 min run!!

30 mins for 5k is a strong time - it could be something to aspire to if you so wish to. Try not to get too caught up on achieving that here in the programme.

As for the pain - experiencing fatigue and muscle soreness is absolutely normal. If the soreness is extreme, and therefore very painful, this may indicate an issue. It's likely that your legs are building tolerance to the distance. If you do feel in pain, I'd be happy to discuss what might be contributing to the pain.

Otherwise, well done again! :-)
