Hi any tips for week 5. I completed first run yesterday. I have just looked a run 2 i it looks a bit scary running for 8 minutes. Then third run running for 20 mins. It seems such a big step.

I thought exactly the same, somehow I managed it.. i was shocked..give it a go and if your legs are getting tired just slow down a little.. you can do it!

Well done on your progress.

It is not a big step..........that workout is the shortest since W3 and you are ready for it.

This post breaks it all down. healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Relax and enjoy it.

Just read the link and it becomes clear I can do this. Thank you. Rest day today and back out tomorrow for second run. Feeling motivated.

Don't think about it too much, just remember a coupe of things:

1. The program is preparing your body to run for these longer times, providing you have completed all the previous runs you should be fine.

2. Control your breathing, this in turn will control your heartrate, try to get into belly breathing (there is a technical name but belly breathing will return some good videos on Youtube).

3. Pace yourself, it isn't a race or a distance competition, if you can't hold a conversation without gasping the words out then you're going too fast.

4. Only your head knows about time, your legs don't. Instead of thinking of 10 minutes or 20 minutes think in terms of 10 minutes is less than 3 songs, 20 minutes is around 6 songs, the lower the number the better as it fools your head into a lower number.

When you go out, just take each run slow and steady, point 2 is the most important followed by point 3.

Always remember point 4 though, it is irrelevant how long the run is, providing point 1, 2 and 3 are followed then you'll complete the run.

Sorry if that's a little too deep for a Saturday morning.

Hi, I am just about to do that run today so I will let you know. I have a new playlist, I am going to do my fave route, start with a slight downward incline as I am useless at the start but find I can run much more easily towards the end plus use today to finalise my route for run three. I think I have been so focused all along on the third run I have barely noticed the second coming up. Every post I have read says to trust the plan and I have actually started looking forward to the runs a bit. I would love to go now but childcare means I can’t until this evening 😔x

I did not think I could do this, but I did. It really is mind over matter. Settle in to a nice slow pace and plod on, your previous runs have prepared you for this. You got it!
