Wk7 run 1 soo bad!

After run 3 in wk 6 I thought I’d finally reached that point In my head thinking I can actually do this! However my right ankle swelled up and and was very painful so tried ice, bought a compression sock etc etc and decided to see if I could run wk 7 after a good days rest.. no chance! As soon as I started to run it was so painful I turned round and limped home.

Had a few days off and tried again but I think I started off too fast and had to stop by about 9 mins, totally lost my momentum and couldn’t get going again so carried on my route with intervals. So disappointed and deflated! Going to try again on Sunday with my hubby as pace maker. He’s really supportive and tends to spur me in when I fell like giving up.

Thought I had this running in the bag and just had to concentrate on going for longer but my ankles are starting to cause me problems. Really don’t want to stop as finally getting somewhere and don’t want to lose my mojo!

Sort for the long post but not quite sure how to go forward.

That is a shame 😔 I am one run behind you and am no expert but it sounds like you need to rest your inflamed ankle for a fair bit longer than you did. Baring in mind 80% of this challenge is mental you should feel really proud that you attempted it as that is more than admirable .... but in this case I think it was too soon. Rest up and look forward to achieving it WHEN your ankle is completely better xx

Thank you, it’s just really demoralizing, feels as if I’m going backwards but you’re right, need to get my ankles better and try to build up their strength too. Thought it was too good to be true to get this far without injury of any sort!

Just keep it slow! I had the same problem and week 7 took me two weeks to complete because after completing 25 mins at the end of week 6 I thought I had it in the bag! I just started off too quickly, was over confident and kept stopping at around 18 mins. I really thought I wasn’t up for this jogging business but all it was was starting off too quickly! I’m about to move onto week 8 now. We can do this!!

I’ve always listened to the same music but I’m getting a little fed up with it so changed it . Don’t think it helped with the pace so will go back to the tried and tested. At least I get a giggle when my next track plays and it’s ‘Highway to Hell’ !!!

It’s good to hear I’m no the only one who has hit this block. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your journey .

Sorry to hear you're having a tough time.

Our bodies are good at signalling to us when something is wrong. It sounds like your ankle may need some more time to recover? Take care x
