I don’t know anything about running and have ordered some running shoes online. I ordered 6 t try on. 4 fit. The question I have is about the Asics shoes which seem to have a more pronounced curve on the sole doing up towards the toes. What is this curve for? I imagine it’s to help the foot in it’s running motion, but is it good for all runners or only for runners with a particular style of gait. I don’t know what feels right for me because nothing feels quite right because I am so new to running if you see what I mean.
Any comments welcome please

Awww I hope they fit and are good for you... I can’t offer a lot by way of asvice cos I too am new to the world of running 🏃🏽♀️
I’ve recently bought new shoes but I listened in wonder as they did my gait analysis... and I was so surprised when it was stated running shoes are supposed to be a half or full size bigger ...
I willingly took their advice and what I do know is that I am a complete convert to running shoes... cannot tell you how much of a difference they make..!
Truly hope you find a pair to suit .. and well done for embarking on this wonderful journey of C25k 👏👏
That’s very useful to know, that they should be bigger than your normal size.
I guess I should get a hair analysis done but 1) I live in the countryside, a long way from anywhere that does that and 2) I don’t really want to spend much money at this stage because I don’t even know if I’ll stick at running! 😂
Of course I get that.... I did think of that initially too... a lot of money to spend on footwear if it’s a 5 minute wonder.. I indulged and I’m hoping the fact I splashed the cash will convince me to stick with it 🤣
but I am honestly loving it at the moment... it gets a grip Of you does this run in lark! ... and by the sound of it you live somewhere that can offer many lovely runs 🏃🏽♀️
I’m sure I’ve read on here that you can do an online gait analysis ... but there are lots of people on here who can tell you more advice than me
It has been awkward buying shoes when you’ve had to rely online, I was the same, I remember researching on the web for a couple of weeks before committing to a pair. So I would suggest the same as it’s very difficult to recommend something like this as everyone’s feet are different 😊
I have some Asics because I pronate, so I would guess the slight curve on the sole going up towards the toe is for that (specifically I have the Asics GT 2000-8) I'm not completely sure if they would suit you if you don't do that. I know my running shop has opened where I live, so maybe it's worth seeing if any running shops that are local to you are doing gait analysis currently? You might find that will help you the most. Like everyone has said, I'm afraid if you can't do that it's purely based on research and seeing what suits you best.
Ah, that’s helpful, thank you. The Asics I have say GT 1000-8, and are men’s (they were cheap I guess because not many men want a size 7). I expect, then, that they help with pronation, like yours do.
Maybe I should do a gait analysis. I really hadn’t wanted to spend much money because I’m not even sure I’m going to continue with running (I’ve hardly even started as I’m about to repeat it, starting again at week one because I kept getting calf strains and so I took a break to do strengthening exercises).
Did you feel pressurised into buying the shoes in their store? I would rather try to get vastly discounted ones online if I can, even if they’re hideous styles. I would be happy to spend the money, normally, it’s just I’m really not sure I’m going to stick with it you see 😂
No, not at all! They just told me the recommended ones that would work with my running - they asked me which one they preferred but it was very casual and it didn't feel as if I had to buy them on that day! I think they ask you your budget as well so you can adapt to that or you can specifically say that you don't want to go extremely expensive!
