The shoes I'm running in at the moment are ones I had already before starting c25k and were £5 in the sale at Primark 😶.
I saw advice on here about getting decent shoes after about week 4. I was going to go into a running shop and see what they thought i needed. There is a shop near me that does gait analysis by watching you run up the road and advises you on suitable shoes.
The only thing is that I looked on their site and even some of the more budget ones are around the £100 mark. Is this what you would expect to pay? As a beginner, should I just get a general, cheaper pair from a cheaper sports shop?
Just wondering what peoples thoughts were on buying expensive shoes at this point?
I do intend to keep going with running, have looked into local park run and feel it is helping my mental health. Now I am running for longer and getting a bit of lower leg and knee ache after runs, I thought perhaps better shoes would help.
I am rambling now, but any advice gratefully received! Thanks

Have a look at this website sportsshoes.com the prices are quite reasonable get the gait analysis done and when you get home look at the site and it should give a few styles/colours and when you pick the size you need order them.
I went to an independent store in the end. The assistant spent ages with me watching me run, bend my knees, run in different shoes, until I found the right pair. They weren't cheap, but I feel I kind of paid for the expertise as well as the shoes.
Your shoes, next to you, are your best asset.. and if you are going to continue running, you need the correct shoes Cheaper shoes are more costly. ( on your legs and feet) in the long run... often out of season styles or weird colours are cheaper... but.. you need to know which shoes you need
Thank you! I am loving it. I am really seeing a difference in how I am feeling. I want so badly to make it something I do, as in 'I'm a runner.
I bought some pretty pricy shoes in the end, after a lot of time with a knowledgeable assistant at an independent shop and i love them. They feel great. They make me so happy! Even just looking at them in the box
Feels like an investment in myself. In my mental health, which is the reason I started this.
Trying them out this morning on the infamous w5r3. Eek!
Do you have a decathlon store near you? They do video gait analysis and some of their shoes start at about £35. If you don’t want to lay out on trainers just yet settle for a proper pair of running socks if you don’t already have them. I got some Thorlo and although they were £11 from my local independent shop I got a second pair half price. The difference is noticeable. I had to run in an old pair I haven’t used since the start of the program, now I’m doing longer runs they rubbed a sore spot in my arch.
Go to your sports shop. Tell them your budget. Ask the to do the gait analysis and suggest soomething within your budget. It is in their interests to sell you a suitable pair of shoes rather than have you go elsewhere.
I wear Asics Gel Indicate 2. Can't remember how much I paid at Intersport, Dundee but depending on size they are reasonable at Amazon. Bought for mixed use, gym and running. Been a good buy.
P.S. Most advisers will tell you to size up. I'm a 6 in a shoe and can't wear 6.5 which slip off my heel, but wear a 7 for running shoes and they're perfect.
