Missing running due to injury

Hi all!

I have been off the radar a bit. I went back to work on the 01/06/2020 and was proud of myself for doing week 6 run 1 again after work. ( I had had a two week break with the hot weather as I don't have any running shorts. I bought some on line but they don't fit 🙄) So anyway I did my run, then at the weekend I went walking with my husband. 5 miles on Saturday and two walks totaling 8 miles on Sunday (the second half in new flip-flops as my feet were too hot). standard distances since lockdown. I woke up on Monday and the outer edge of my right foot hurt when walking on it, almost like it was bruised. It doesn't hurt to touch but does when I walk on it. It is better in the morning and gets worse as the day goes on. I think it may be a tendon? I am resting it and didnt do any yoga for four days. I am gutted as I don't want to lose all the progress I had made.

I don't know if it was caused by my driving 3 hours a day to go to work, walking in rigger boots again at work or if the flip-flops in the second part of the run had something to do with it?

Has anyone had this before and has some advice? I haven't seen a doctor yet due to Covid.

Any thoughts welcome.

For a person with a new unprecedented longing to run 🙂 😑

It's amazing that you're keen to run again! That's what the programme does to you. :)

Only a doctor or sports physio would be able to give proper medical advice. It could just be a bit bruised after your long walk or because of your shoes. Rest it for as long as it needs and when it feels ok again perhaps try going for a decent walk in your running shoes to test it out before you run again. It would take longer than a couple of weeks to lose fitness or undo your progress so don't worry too much about that. Try to resist the urge to run again too early as that could mean longer on the injury couch which really is no fun at all. You could always repeat the previous week when you get back to the programme if you want to. Listen to your body and if it tells you to stop or that it's not comfortable to run then stop. The next run will always be waiting for you when you're injury free. :)
