A Breezy 5k tonight

I managed a second 5k tonight and wanted everyone to know that yes this might of been my 83rd 5k but boy was it hard. After it was very breezy and as a result I felt like the gremlins were out tonight trying to say you have done a good mile you can stop, 1 1/2 miles you can stop all the way through the run. I managed to talk myself round it helps doing the same route as you know pretty much how much further you need to go, two laps then one lap then finish. The music helps the determination to not run less than 3.2 miles helps. So to say I was pleased to have finished that one only 5 seconds slower than Monday’s run was an understatement. So everyone yes you can have what feels a bad run don’t feel down as the end result may not be. You have run. Good luck, stay safe and healthy and keep running.

Thanks did wonder tonight if I wasn’t going to manage it. Got so far through the run then the gremlins get turned over and the strength appears to complete the run. Five seconds slower in that breeze I was so pleased.

Thanks I was pleased with it. It was very cloudy and dark I did think it was going to Chuck it down I had already walked the dogs so knew it was very windy but thought I would run as only round the back of me and therefore pretty easy to go home if too much.

Oh those gremlins never give up... when we think they’ve gone they’re just strategising for their next attack! Not that they’re ever a match for a strong runner... great running.

Thanks UnfitNoMore they were there for a while however other voices were stronger and does help having some good tunes on the head phones certainly helps drown them out.

I could have done with some music today... blown to bits on my first mile... was gonna go up into the hills, but took the road down and into town instead... it was gonna suck more the higher I went!

I won’t run with out music 🎧 🎶 in my ears it helps to sing along to the songs and takes the mind of the steep gradient and tree roots I have to dodge in order to do the lap of the park.

I’d sing, but I don’t want it to rain too hard 🤣. Rarely use music these days... sometimes a podcast goes on, the odd guided run, but usually the headphones stay in the car. Loving the sounds of nature at the moment, but headphones will return over the winter I think.

Thanks for you post. I’ve just done my first consolidation run - on a windy promenade with the sea in. Only managed 3.6 but feel as though I’ve run 5.6! But at least I’m carrying on 😊 will go again on Saturday and hope the wind goes elsewhere!! 😂😂

I too struggled last night against the wind. Gave in to the gremlins and walked a bit ☹️. I agree that music helps - yesterday it was a podcast, which doesn’t inspire so much as the right music.

But really, we all have off days.

Yes we do have off days and days we don’t feel like running 🏃‍♂️ but you got out there and ran. I am lucky my gremlins I usually overcome by thinking just three laps to go, or just get to that bit of the course then I think no turn music up and get on with it. If music track not helping skip and move on to next one. Well done for going.

Well done! I think it’s particularly impressive that you beat the gremlins telling you to stop! I hate those gremlins! I’m still in shock that I can run 5K and that makes me question whether I can keep going but I think the act of managing to is probably one of the reasons I feel so proud after each run. Thank you for your inspiration!

Not a problem Bumblybee, of course you can keep going use distraction techniques. I use targets to reach, I use music and turn it up. I also run a similar route each time at present so I am aware of how far I need to go and what has to be done. Stick with it and good luck.
