Running in the rain

Stupid question of the week....

So far I have been lucky and the weather has been kind in the mornings when I have wanted to run (week4 run 3). Today it's raining and I am conflicted. Do I run in the rain and if so what do people wear, or do I wait til this evening when the forecast is better? My issue is what rain protection do people recommend to wear which enables you to run without getting overheated/even more sweaty?

Rain is wet.

If you run in the rain you get wet.

Skin is waterproof.

That said, weather forecasts and flexibility means that you don't have to start a run in the rain.........but you have to get christened sometime.

There is only one way to find out if you like running in the rain, go out and run run 3 of week 4 or is it the first week of week 5, wear a waterproof, see how it goes, if not wait until the rain stops.

There are no stupid questions.

It's up to you how wet it is where you are (here in the south west it's just very blustery but dry). I am lucky enough to own a wind/ water resistant running jacket (generous son), but before I had it, I would rather get wet than hot and sweaty. I just wore my normal running gear; not more than two layers because of overheating. In fact, I enjoy running in the rain much more than the recent heat. I find it always looks worse from the kitchen window than it actually is. Just make sure you change out of your wet clothes as soon as you get back, or it can become very uncomfortable.

Good luck 👍

I think you’ll find running in the rain a lot more pleasant than the heat of recent weeks.

At the moment I think it’s warm enough to run in your normal gear, but when it is cold and windy I do like to wear a shower proof jacket . Mine is hi-viz with reflectors too, so useful for running in poor light. It’s Ronhill, available in running shops or online, but many brands available. I’ve heard on the forum that bargains have been found in Aldi and decathlon. Despite what the label may say, it doesn’t stop you sweating though.

You can’t really avoid getting wet, but many have found wearing a peaked cap is good, especially if wearing glasses 🤓 . I won’t set out on a run if it’s pouring down, but if it happens while I’m out I’ll carry on. Having said that, I did a reindeer dash last December in torrential rain and gales and survived, so nothing should stop me now.

I discovered that as long as my torso is dry-ish I love running in the rain. - There is just something about being immersed in the elements! 😂

I wear a very lightweight breathable cycling jacket (because I happened to have one) and that keeps me comfortable. I also wear a running cup with a peak to keep the rain drop off my glasses. (Inexpensive online.)😄

Embrace it.

It’s nice.

Only need extra on if it’s cold.
