How to prevent stitch

I have recruited my son to run with me but as soon as he starts running he gets a stitch. He is managing to run through it at the moment (we are wk 2 run 2) but not sure that will be so easy as runs get longer.

Any tips on reducing likelihood or coping with a stitch.

I've been very fortunate to have avoided stitched on all but a couple of runs. Really not nice when you get them though.

This is quite a good article.

Hope it helps:

The advice given by the trainers on the app is to slow down and take some slow, deep and full breaths and that worked for me on the only occasion that I had a stitch.

Avoid eating too soon before a run and ensure that you are fully hydrated (details on both in the guide to the plan)

Avoid drinking while running.

Warm up thoroughly and avoid shallow breathing.

Hydration is important too.. drink plenty the day before the run .. there’s guidance on here about how much is recommended 😊
