Not even half way

I started wk7 today after completing all previous runs, but I just couldn’t do it. Got to 10 minutes in and was already shattered with my legs giving up completely by half way. Is this normal? Should I just put this down to experience and try again in a couple of days? Feeling a bit demoralised 😩

I just did the same run and found it hard too the last 5 minutes were brutal lol but on my tracker I noticed I was going quicker than the last 25min run which I found alot easier so I think I was maybe a bit cocky I'd done it before and started off quicker. Don't know if same with you but I'm trying really hard to stay slow, also I have noticed if I'm getting tired I can really slow to a plod until I recover then speed up again a bit. They say on here treat it as a practice run and repeat it, it's so great to get this far. Don't give up, you'll smash it next time 😊

It happens to most of us, so don’t be too downhearted, treat it as a practice run, you’ll bounce back, maybe slow your pace down a little when you next run. Next time you’ll be so determined, you’ll complete it easily...stick with it 👍

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

As a runner you need to drink 2.5 -3 litres of fluid each and every day, running or not, as mentioned in the guide.

Enjoy your journey.

Exactly the same thing happened on my week 7/1 run. Just about made it to 10 mins then couldn’t do any more.

I just rested another two days (and brought some new trainers) then was fine when I tried again. Could have been any number of factors affecting you. (It has turned very warm today) But sometimes just an extra days rest helps 🙂

Thank you!! I’ll take any excuse to buy new trainers 😂 x

Mine were 15 years old (although hadn’t been worn for more than half that time!) and whilst fine for the earlier runs, I had noticed some pain developing in my feet when the running time got longer.
