Suggestions for knee support?

Hi. I have always had 'dodgy' knees, and had surgery a few years ago. I intend to do the knee strengthening exercises someone suggested on here to see if this helps, but i note that others have said they use a knee support when running. Just wondered if anyone can recommend any in particular that work for them please? I am just in week 9 at the moment, but keep having to take a few days extra rest to stave off the knee pain, which is really frustrating! Thanks very much!

Daft question but have you had a gait analysis, are you running in the right shoes? I suffered from knee pain last time I tried running but this time I have done it properly with the C25k. I also had a gait analysis done at about week 4 and invested in a proper pair of running shoes. No knee pain since.

Just a thought.

Hi. I had a gait analysis about 2 years ago, when I brought the trainers, and then they stayed in pristine condition in the cupboard until a couple of months ago when i started the C25k! I wonder if my gait has changed over the past couple of years though? I will do this once the shops open again to check, thanks. Wonder if a podiatrist or osteopath might suggest something too, as I am sure it is the whole leg really rather than just a knee problem. thanks for your suggestion!

A gait analysis, what’s that?

A specialist jogging shop will look at you running and provide you with the best trainers depending on your 'gait', i.e if your feet turn in or out etc etc when you run.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

I use an elasticated knee support called Airflow on my knee that was injured. It seemed to help when I had instability, but it is better to do the strengthening exercises and build up your supportive musculature.

Enjoy your journey.
