I posted a few days ago that my knee was feeling really sore after the first two weeks of the programme. I've been resting it but it's still really sore and I'm starting to wonder if this is just going to happen every time I try to run again due to my age and weight (both are much higher than I'd like!). I'm losing weight slowly so doing what I can there but has anyone else had runner's knee this early in the programme and did they eventually recover and carry on training? I'm feeling rather demotivated at the moment after a successful first two weeks.....

Sore knee saga continues....
I did. I took extra rest days, ran on grass and strapped my knees till the y had got stronger. There are strengthening exercises you can do as well - just Google as there are plenty on the Internet. Don't give up - just be kinder to those poor old knees!
Make sure you stretch and ice after each run. Sore knees can be a result of a weakness in other areas of your body so strengthen your glutes and quads too. Take a look at this:

I had to stop at week 3 with really painful knees and could hardly walk for a month. I did go back to finish and that was 2 years ago so keep positive! Have you got proper running shoes?
If you are worried get yourself booked in to a sports physio.
Knee strengthening exercises! knee-pain-explained. Or something like that. Great web site that gives you good advice and beginner exercises. I had this problem to begin with but did the exercise and heeded the advice on here to take more rest days. I graduated in June and now run with no problems. Good luck.
Hi all, thanks for the replies and the encouragement that I should be able to move through this eventually! Yes, I have good shoes but I must admit I haven't really done any stretches or exercises yet. Think I'll definitely have to start. Annoyingly enough, my other knee is starting to hurt now, presumably because I'm trying to protect the other one when walking, sigh.... (not running at all atm). My other half has suggested I do each week of the programme for a month, ie take things really really slowly. He kindly (?!) pointed out that it's taken me nearly 60 years to get this creaky and it's going to take a while to reverse that trend! I guess the idea has merit if I can manage to be that patient....
