I’ve been using Map My Walk for a long time now (2 years) and although I’m only on W3 or C25K, when would you suggest using Map My Run instead? Would you use it from now on or towards the end of the programme? Obviously I’m getting good times for my walks atm but if I switch to a run app and I’m still partially walking, is there any point yet? 🤔
Which App?: I’ve been using Map My Walk for a... - Couch to 5K
Which App?
Wait until you start doing continuous runs or the data won’t be accurate and you won’t see the improvements due to the walking portion
Well done for starting c25k. I used Strava, but I didn’t start using it until I moved on to the last week of the plan, and I didn’t record the walking warm up and warm downs.
The trouble with using them on the plan is that people start concentrating on speed and distance, when all that is needed at this stage is to run at a natural conversational pace for the time specified.
Enjoy your running journey. It is a great one.
That’s interesting as I have now downloaded Strava but am on the 1 month free trial and I’m not completely sure of the benefits 🤷♀️ I am now in W9 and am beginning to think about working on increasing my speed (to get to a normal speed 😂) as very very slow. But I can’t even work out what my speed is 🙄
And I also think maybe I should just concentrate on being consistent with my 3 5k a week instead. I shall persevere
I want to use MapMyRun really as I’m familiar with MapMyWalk, just wanted to see what people thought. I’m not familiar with Strava and I don’t really want to pay for an app 🤷🏻♀️
There is a free version which meets most people’s requirements, but many use mapmyrun too - I haven’t tried it.
I just use the free version as it gave me everything I needed, so it might be worth switching before your free trial ends.
While you are on the plan and the following consolidation phase, I suggest you just concentrate on completing the times at a steady pace .
Slow running builds up the muscles and improves stamina. I think I went into settings to set the alerts to tell me when I reached a km and it said what my pace was.
I believe mapmywalk can track runs, and MapMyRun can track walks... so maybe you already have a tracker? The data certainly shares between the two automatically too.
I have Strava active at the moment, I don’t see any benefits from the premium stuff, don’t rate their training plans one little bit, don’t run with my phone often so beacon is useless to me. I’m currently looking into wether I can turn off PBs and segments as they both drive me batty... if I can’t turn them off I’ll be deleting my account... it’s the Facebook of running apps, which I’m growing to despise and reminds me of why I don’t like social media.
I use Garmin connect (but it needs a Garmin device) for most things and Nike Run Club for coaching and training plans (all free)
MapMyWalk, MapMyRun, MapMyRide - they are all exactly the same app, just a different colour! I log all of my runs, walks and cycle rides on MapMyWalk, but it could just as easily be on any of the others - my partner uses MapMyRun.
All you have to do is change the type of workout before you start, on the "log workout" screen, at the top left it will tell you what it is set for, just touch the screen there and it will open a list of different activities. Select the one you want - and away you go!
Have fun!
I use Map My Run free version and it does everything I need personally and used since the beginning. A friend of mine uses Strava and finds it as helpful for her runs. I think if you just want to track your run and not necessarily training for anything big either works fine and on the free versions. I would suggest that you check your privacy on anything you use though. A public profile has the potential for people to map your habits and if you run/live alone you need to stay safe. A friend recently made me aware of this.
