Hi all. Just completed my 1st week of 3 runs. Legs still feel like jelly afterwards lol. I used to be quite fit, having played football most of my life but was recently diagnosed with high cholesterol levels so am slowly trying to change my diet as well as begin regular exercise again.

My long term goal is to run a 5K event for charity

Great start. Believe me you will get there if you follow the plan. We're very similar as I played lots of football but wasn't a runner. This plan is superb as is this forum. Keep hydrated and stretch and you will do it!

Thank you for the words of encouragement and advice GTFC, it’s much appreciated. Not being doing much stretching yet so will look to incorporate that as well

If you follow the plan you can do it. I started having done zero running in my life (I’m 56) and completed run one of week 7 today. I’m amazed at how it works but it does. I actually look forward to run days now.

Hi smudge71 I'm due to start week 3. I've been moderately fit. Used to cycle run etc. Still young ish 32.

Found ct5k such a good marker to get back into a form of exercise to keep fit.

And such a warm and supportive community on here to keep you motivated.

Keep it up

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi, I was extremely unfit when I started this program and although at school I excelled at sprints, marathon running had never been my thing. Due to confinement I have been running on my rebounder(trampoline) and have just finished week 3. I have amazed myself by the improvement in my stamina, my breathing and the strengthening of my ankles. I do a full workout after - abs, squats, arms. I love the challenges as you see the improvement in your condition from week to week which is really motivating and keeps you going. From thinking it was impossible to acheive I am really impressed at the mind change that this program has given me. If I can do it, any one can do it, beleive me. I'll make you laugh but I did the first week for almost 2 weeks almost like I was scared of not being able to handle week 2. Week 2 flew past with ease and gave me the encouragement needed to pass on to week 3. Go for it and don't give in to jelly legs, thats just a sign that the oil in the machine is getting to work!!!!
