Today I had to give myself a right talking to before I could get out the door. There I was moaning over on May's consolidation area about lack of motivation and I thought - do you know what? This isn't getting me anywhere and I definitely don't want to lose fitness and have to start all over again! I decided that I needed to break out of a routine that was getting a tad boring, so today I decided on a "naked" run!
I just had my watch to keep an eye on running time but no phone or music. I did keep my clothes on though, you'll be relieved to hear. I also decided that I was going to ditch any notions of covering more distance and just get out there and be 'in the moment'.
I am happy to say it was my best run in ages! Every so often I completely zoned out and I slipped in and out of the "happy pace" I had lost for a while. Marvellous!
That's the 6th consolidation run done and I feel like this might be starting to click!

Well I'd just been reading that it's naked gardening day so I thought you were perhaps just going one step further! Glad you had a good run. Out of interest how often do you run?
I had slipped down to only about twice a week. But I got some great advice from Roseabi on the consolidation post area about next steps so I think I'll get back to 3 times a week. She highlighted the magic 10k plan that has a version where you just aim to increase running time rather than distance and I think that's what I'll do. I think it will take me around 45 mins to run 5k so that will be part of the goal, then it will be to run for an hour.
Tech free is liberating and allows you to appreciate your environment fully.
Good step forward!!
This made me smile 😊. I did all my consolidation runs up to week 6 like this too. No app, no music, just my normal wristwatch to keep me on track with my 5/30/5 walks and runs. I loved it. It was the start of lockdown and I appreciated the peace and quiet. I have never thought of it as naked running until now and it has made me laugh 😆 as it describes it perfectly.
I treated myself to a runners watch while on the injury couch so that I had something to look forward to after injury. I’m back on intervals just now so that I ease in gently and I am able to program these into my watch, which is a great help.
Enjoy your naked runs Fionamags and I shall think of you on mine tomorrow 😆🏃♀️!
Wow great post, Fionamags. It certainly does zone you out of yourself when you are not checking on statistics or running with a beat. My daughter and I were talking about authentic movement and how it can take you into a type of trance. Glad you enjoyed it. Happy running. 🏃♀️🙋🏻♀️👍
OH that's annoying - its great on my phone but doesn't show up on the laptop. the first one is a little shivering head with icicles draped around it and the third is a girl in the lotus position!
Thanks Al. I'm also now really excited at the suggestion from Roseabi and I think I'll tackle the bridge to 10k using the time rather than distance. To be honest, if I did it using distance it would take me a lot longer than 8 weeks to do it safely.... Hope her advice works for you too!
🤞going to give 4 weeks to getting up to 5k then will be hopefully be hot on your heels. Going to take some pressure off and a leaf out of your book and do some "naked running"😂😂
I love this post! Finding a run which is just simple, just running where and how you want with no strict targets is the best! Glad you enjoyed it. I have ditched the music too and have enjoyed running more than ever.
In fact I think it was you that suggested this ages ago when I got into a fankle with technology overload? It was in the back of my mind when I decided to do this but I couldn't remember who it was that suggested it...
