Hate to go all Radio 4 on you but decided to try running with a podcast rather than a playlist on my second post graduate run
A secret vice of mine is keeping up with the Archers so this evening I ran with the omnibus edition. Not only could I pretend I was running in leafy Ambridge (I realise I'm losing those of you who have no knowledge of the Archers) rather than along the ring road - it made absolutely no difference to my average speed or distance covered (these being virtually identical to my run to music earlier this week).
So now I'm thinking if I go running somewhere lovely on Sunday I might even try running 'naked' if you know what I mean? !
Happy weekend running to you all

I love a good naked run too! I was thinking trying a podcast on a run. I used one on a walk last Sunday just to see if I thought it would work, but I was so distracted by the beautiful scenery that I kept losing the thread. Maybe I need to try it on the dual carriageway. 😉 Enjoy!
I used to listen to The Archers on my cycling commute to my old job, great way to pass the journey time 😀
I almost always run to the written word and find it much more distracting than music. Also means I can get books 'read' without stuffing something else into the schedule. The Archers is on in my house whilst I cook tea; nobody gets fed until tumdediddlydee. My phone is broke and in for repair so I have been without audio for the last few runs. I found the first one more difficult, but really enjoyed the next two. About to head out for 5k, so we'll see........
I'm definitely going to listen to more written word stuff as I run from now on but also think running without audio - especially if the scenery is nice - is worth a try.
I have been listening to The Book of Dust from Philip Pullman which was on radio 4. I found it better than music as my speed doesn't change to match the beat.
I'm a countryside runner and almost always run naked 😊 as there is so much to see. I take The Archers omnibus with me once a week but often forget to set it going - so my guilty "pleasure" (depending on storyline) is delayed.
So many of us R4 addicts! Struggling post grad with motivation but best run last week was the one when I ditched Laura and her ricicuously fast beat on a stepping stones podcast and just listened to PM. I nearly always choose spoken word to music in other situations such as driving so not sure why it’s took me so long to realise this for my runs too. I’ll keep the archers for my lovely Sunday mornings of BH, archers, desert island discs and brunch. Such a women of habit. Hopefully the running will become just as an enjoyable habit for us all too. I’m not there yet. Enjoyed c25k but finding these first few weeks after graduating a bit of a chore. But not ready to give up yet x
I get what you mean about the post grad motivation. I like a bit of a schedule myself and it's especially hard to get out there when a couple of runs in a week have to be on a dark evening that limits me to pavements. Still I feel the benefits are so great I need to keep going and maybe R4 will help. Love the Sunday morning schedule too - but happened to miss the Archers last week!
Here's to happy post gradyate running. 😊
I thought it was just me that liked to listen to the Archers whilst running. It's great for distracting you from distance actually.
And naked running - we really do need to think of a better term for that lol!
I love The Archers and love a podcast run. Although I tried it to slow myself down like you it made no difference to my pace. Ran a small part of my run ‘naked’ last night and missed the noise and wasn’t too keen hearing my breathing 😆
