Day 1 🥵

Morning ☀️ well I set my alarm for 6.30am and got out of bed and went for my first run....EVER!!!! I’m not going to lie it was tough, I completed it ....just 😂 my knees took a bashing and weirdly felt my hands had swollen???? You know what though the sun was shining and I kept thinking of why I decided to do this in the first place and I thoroughly enjoyed it and I can’t thank everyone enough for all their encouragement messages in my first post and how many people are just like me. Bring on Thursday 💪💪.....this is the 1st day of the rest of my life ❤️❤️

I did my 1st run this morning too & I agree it was tough going. Are you planning a rest day tomorrow or straight into your second run?

Hi, I’m going to take a rest day tomorrow. I’m going to follow the plan. I’m thinking I might do Pilates in my rest days as that’s meant to be good for relaxing your muscles. Well done on your first run...here’s to easier days 🤣

Thank you! Well done to you too! I was thinking rest day but didn't know if it was a cop out. 🙈

Hi, and welcome. Have you read the pinned post on c25k? Far from being a cop out, rest days are part of the programme - non-negotiable!

When you run you create micro tears in your muscles, all perfectly normal. On your rest days, your muscles repair themselves and adapt to the new stress you're putting on them. You get fitter and stronger on your rest days, not your running days!

Always, always take at least one rest day between runs, or you will be at greater risk of injury. I took two because I'm older and felt I needed it.

That's not to say do nothing on your rest days. In normal times I would suggest all sorts of things - swimming is my go-to, I miss it so much! But you can try yoga, PE with Joe Wicks, walking, cycling, gardening; anything that keeps you moving but doesn't impact on your leg muscles too much.

Good luck 👍

Well done Poppie, I have just finished my first run of week one of the challenge. My lungs are bursting and I’m knackered but feel so much better for doing it. Next run on Thursday, should be easier than today!

It’s called sausage fingers! I believe it’s when all of the blood carries oxygen to the organs that need it most (lungs & heart) when your exercising, so your fingers swell with liquid as they are least important at this time! Until your heart rate goes back to normal. X

Wow excellent, thanks for letting me know. Felt so weird when I was washing them after getting in...like man hands 🤣🤣 everydays a school day 😁

Great stuff! Sounds like you've got the running bug already. Stick to the plan, resting in between run days is needed. Good luck!

Well done Poppie1,

You have stepped into a new life as you completed your W1R1. Take it easy , go at your own pace , keep it steady, slow and remover to breath. Learn how to breath in and out deeply . Not easy at first , it’s your body so go with your own flow. I look forward to hearing how R2 goes. 🐾
