Lockdown: non stop eating and drinking like I’m in Ibiza!

Hi fellow runners! Hope you’re all keeping safe and well. I was wondering if anyone else is struggling with bad habits since the lockdown? I’ve been doing a lot of home cooking - and eating - and drinking far too much. I’ve still managed to run twice a week but I can feel all my new wobbly bits chaffing - very demotivating xxx

Heya!

This is such a difficult and stressful time that we’re all going through at the moment. I think it’s important to let yourself do what you WANT to do. If that is enjoying food then so be it. Remember that if the worst thing that can happen for you is that you gain a few pounds during lockdown, then who cares! You’re healthy and happy and doing things you enjoy. Don’t put yourself down over others’ expectations! Take care and all the best! 😘

Ah, thanks - I hope I didn’t come off as a whinger because I feel very lucky that my fam and I are ok - but three kids nipping at ankles and a hubby in the shed is such a massive change that I’ve fallrn back on bad - although extremely enjoyable - habits. All the best to you too xx

I am with you Oliverunner! Although I have religiously stuck to running three times a week my eating habits have gone a bit to pot! Easter eggs and hot cross buns don’t help!

Ah - I’m so (selfishly) glad that I’m not the only one! Ditto on the Easter eggs. Well done on the running - I must get back to three a week. It feels so much better x

I'm also a homebrewer. So definitely like I'm in Ibiza some nights lol try and have a few days without any alcohol if I plan to run. (Which is few and far between) 😂

I've chosen NOT to weigh myself lol

So tricky to feel motivated when such big things are happening. Home brewing??? Don’t give me more ideas!! 😂😂. I’m getting out there tomorrow. It really is amazing how one run can change my whole point of view. Keep well xxx

Hi Oliverunner , I am still working but from home so no commute and sit all day. I started C25k to get healthy and hopefully loose a few lbs! All was going well until we had to stay at home and I have been doing loads of baking and drinking but continued with my 3 runs a week. I have not lost anything since lock down but have not gained either so not all bad! I keep saying I will stop gorging but it is hard when there is no social life at the moment. Like Anmdox said if the worst that happens is we gain a few lbs then it's not that bad. Good luck 😊

That’s brilliant, keeping up with the three runs. You deserve all those baked goodies, guilt free xx

I love the title of your post 🤣🤣🤣

It’s a strange time for everyone right now, there’s no right or wrong way of doing things. Like others have said if we put on a couple of lbs, that’s not a big deal.

I noticed too that since the lockdown I was having one or two more drinks than usual as the distinction between weekdays and weekend days is now blurred or impossible ( and that’s before a drink 🍺 🤣) .

Since last week I’m being a bit more disciplined and sticking to having a drink on the weekend days.

I’m maintaining my three runs per week so don’t feel too bad about a drink now and then or even the odd bit of Easter 🐣 choccie.

Just do what you need to do to get through this time. Nobody should be judging you.

Stay safe, and happy running 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️👍😎

Ah, thanks love: yes, it’s all a bit of blur and also a novelty. But reality has to kick in now or I won’t be able to squeeze myself out of the front door, hehe. You’re right about the judgment. I’m trying to avoid all of the irritating posts from celebrities sunning themselves in their acres of land and doing yoga in tiny bikinis. I’m off of nearly all social media but this stuff is pervasive. Cheers for the understanding x

No so much struggling... kinda flirting with things a little though 🤣

As I’m not running often, my wine intake has risen slightly, I usually only drink if I’m not running the next day... so with a run a week on average I’ve had a couple of glasses most nights.

Food wise, I’m probably eating more sensibly than before though, I used to be a lot bigger and I refuse to go back there, so I’m very aware that I’m no longer burning the 500 to 2000 calories a day that I’m used to.

Wanted a cigarette a few days ago too... but chose to ignore the urge, it’s been nearly 2 years on that score.

Even addictive things are choices... so I’ve chosen to keep things similar to my running life as much as I can. For me the answer to the thought that a few biscuits won’t harm is the same as I used to give up smoking... a short meditation session clears the urge. When I’m meditating 20 times a day I may need help 🤣

Hiya - well done on keeping things going. It’s always inspirational to hear when someone finds it tough but then finds a way through. I just went into fake holiday mode, what with the sun, kids and hubby at home, etc etc. But I can’t bear to undo the work I’ve done so I’m going to really try xx
