My first 10k

Hope everyone is keeping well and safe.

I managed to run my first 10k today. It wasn’t fast or pretty, but I made it.

My pace dropped right off in the second half of the run, and after 5 or 6 k I really felt like stopping. It was really hot outside today ☀️ , and I realised I’ve not had enough water this last few days.

What kept me going was thinking of those people who are the essential workers and also those people who can’t go out right now. So those are the folks who have to go out, and those who can’t go out. I’d like to dedicate my run to both those groups of people.

I decided to keep going one step at a time and slow down, and get to 7 k and then 1k at a time and just keep going

Next week is my 55th birthday on the 17th, I was keen to try and get to 10k by then ....so now it’s done.

Thanks very much to everyone on here for the wonderful encouragement and support. Without that I would not have achieved this. If you have just started this programme, please keep going. You will need some determination to get through it, but it is amazingly worthwhile.

I only started c25k on 30 Dec 2019, if I can do it then you can too.

Keep safe, and happy running. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️👍

It's as fast as my 5K 😂

Very well done.

Thank you very much.

Congratulations to you on your graduation 🎓🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

I might join you virtually in a celebration bar of chocolate this evening 🍫

Fantastic Martin! What a wonderful early birthday present. I hope this has earned you your Graduate10 badge on the Bridge to 10k forum. Well done!!

Thanks very much Delly-dot.

I didn’t think of the Graduate10 badge, thanks for reminding me. Love a good badge 🤣

Well down on your own consolidation runs, you’re making great progress. 👍

Congratulations!

Well done on reaching 10k and thanks for posting and saying you only started in December! I’m aiming for 10k by August as friends have invited me to do a 10k event with them (if it goes ahead 🤞) youve reassured me that goal is achievable 😊

Thank you very much Workingfromhome.

Yes it is definitely achievable.

Well done yourself on your progress through c25k so far.

Just keep it slow and steady, the programme really is amazing in that it prepares your body really well for the next phase.

Well down again and keep up the great work.

Thank you 😊 week 4 run 2 later and I’m quite excited about it 😮

Hope you have a great run later for your week 4 run 2.

My favourite run of the entire c25k was week 5 run 3. So long as you have done all the other runs up to then, you can approach that run with confidence and you’ll be absolutely fine and I bet you’ll actually enjoy it. You will certainly enjoy the high of completing it.

It was my favourite because it gave me massive confidence in myself and in the entire programme.

Look forward to hearing how you get on.

Happy running 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️👍

Well done Martin, no matter the speed or the prettiness, your determination got you to the end 🏃

Thank you for dedicating it to essential workers - apparently I am one of those on the frontline in retail 😲 and people who can't go out - my son is one of those, as he is on immunosuppressants and is shielding. Not a good combination.

Hope you and yours are keeping well 😊

Thank you Joanney and good to hear from you.

So yes the run yesterday is dedicated people exactly such as you and your son. People working in front line retail are definitely essential workers and I applaud you ( literally every Thu evening ) 👏🏻

I’ve been job hunting for the last few months, but not a great time for that right now for obvious reasons. Luckily my other half is still working ( albeit from home ).

Our teenage boys are doing great, the older one seems relieved to not be doing his GCSE’s.

More importantly we are all keeping safe and healthy thanks.

Are you still getting out for a run ?

Hope you and yours keep safe and well too Joanney.

This is awesome mate. What an achievement this is. Wow 🏆you did it and that is all there is to say. This run will now be a mould and in time you can shape it to work on the second half of it or start if steadier and you will improve it. It's an excellent first 10k time. Mark my words, you will go under an hour but all in good time. No rush and no pressure now. You can do the distance!!

Thanks very much GTFC, it is a great feeling to have achieved this distance.

Yes you're right I can work on ways to get this time down, and would love to get it under and hour eventually.

Thank you again, and happy running 👍👍
