Week 1 Run 1 complete!

Having given myself lots of excellent reasons why I shouldn’t get started (not just yet, not today, tomorrow looks good!), coronavirus has come along and given me the kick up the bum that I really needed! After just over a week of self-isolation I knew something needed to change, so with time on my hands, and a treadmill standing idle the time was right to get started. My first attempt ended abruptly 11 minutes in, probably due to me going too hard, too fast. After a day’s rest I came back with a fresh mindset, dialled down the speedometer, and thirty minutes later, run number one is under my belt. It wasn’t easy, though towards the end I felt there was a rhythm carrying me forward, but I’m proud of this first achievement, and ready for run number two!

Well done 👍🏻

Nice one! It's so natural to want to burst out but slow and steady really is the way. This way you'll build strength and stamina and pace will naturally grow. Make sure you take a rest day after each run. As long as you keep going, you'll do it all.

I think most of us start fast, think it goes back to the school days when you never went for a run but every run was a race, looking back that was soooooo wrong. Slow and steady is the best, I have just gone back to my C25K speed as I was struggling with a tried increase in speed after graduation. Just be prepared to slow down more, remember the hare and the tortoise! It won't be to long before you start seeing a difference in your health and fitness, around week 5 I noticed my belly was shrinking, which surprised me. Keep up the good work it may seem a long way to the end but it will be there before you know it.
