I managed to do my first run today. I’m very unfit so I’m hoping this will help me to lose weight and to be able to run even a little way. Everyone has to start somewhere. Great to see lots of people still going after week 6,7,8 etc. Very motivational. Take care everyone. Lauren x
1st run today!: I managed to do my first run... - Couch to 5K
1st run today!
Welcome and great job getting started.
Please take some time to read the guide to the plan as it has lots of tips to make this easier healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
As someone who had absolutely perfected unfitness, I know you can do this... and when you’re on week 6,7,8 etc you’ll be the one inspiring 100 other people just like you.
You can do this, enjoy your journey
Thank you. That’s very motivational! I will definitely be reading that blog. Thanks again.
Keep coming for a chat... some are inspired by the graduates and marathon runners here, others by people closing the plan out, and lots by people just a handful of runs ahead of them... so we all motivate each other. Oh, and obviously we are here for you too, we need to cheer you along, answer your questions and see you graduate.
One just started also , keep going and don’t give up ! It’s always harder in the beginning , I’m also very unfit but it’s a start ! Well done
We all started where you are now, just enjoy the runs, rest up between runs you'll be fine 👍👍
You’re right! Thank you. 😁
Well done. You've taken the first steps. I've just completed wk2... 😀 Keep at it xx
Well done you!! Thank you 🙏🏽
Don’t give up. I started C25k a year ago and finished in around July. It was one of the best things I ever did! One year on, I’m still running and I’ve lost 3 Stone. I run between 6 and 10km when I go out now. It’s the most amazing thing I ever did. If I can do it, anyone can, so keep it up and good luck! You will do it, and more!
That’s amazing!! People like you really inspire me, because you’ve kept pushing and pushing! Well done 👍🏽
This was really inspiring. I’m due to start W2R1 today and doubting whether I can do it (I find it difficult to stick to exercise routines). But I’m going to keep at this
Yay well done for starting 👏
I’m on day 3 which means I e only find 1 run because yesterday was a rest day and I can’t wait to get out there today .
we are starting it together and I’m massively unfit on my first run I had to bypass two of the runs 😂
do you wanna be my running partner? We can spur each other on?
Thanks!! Ohh I see, so you’re getting out there today then? I’m so unfit & I want to lose weight now! I go through this phase every so often, but this time I want it to be the last time! I would love to be your running partner! Let’s do this girl 👍🏽😁x
The plan is brilliant. I started immediately post a vertebrae fracture, unfit and too heavy...oh and 66 years old. I was running 10k within 7 months. I am lighter, fitter.....but regrettably no younger 🙂. Stick to the plan, be happy running really slowly, so that you can run for the allotted time and have enough breath to have a natter with someone at the same time (when that is allowed again!), and you will succeed. The link from Unfitnomore is really helpful. I ended up with a bit of calf soreness and few niggles as the distance increased...but I just dealt with them.....my running muscles had been dormant for 40 years or so !! Enjoy it 👍
Wow...how inspiring! You’ve done so so well!! Fair play to you. The plan seems good, structured and starting at your own pace. I don’t run, it’s more of a light jog! But we shall see. Thanks again. Good luck to you! 😁👍🏽
I found this helpful youtu.be/9L2b2khySLE
Good luck with your running journey, I found the plan amazing. It just works!
Well done, sounds like you’re in a similar place to me! I’ve finished my first week and am about to start my second, I never thought I even do that - keep going!!
Well done for starting x
You have taken your first step and ran! I found that the hardest when I started after the 5 min walk warm up! But once I broke that mental barrier I never looked back and the brilliant, kind and supportive people on the forum were there to help me every step of the way. Now on W9 and will do penultimate run tomorrow. In 9 weeks you will be there too!
Well done. Now dig deep and keep up your motivation. I'm just heading out on my penultimate run of the programme. When I started this I never thought I could run for 30 minutes. I'm not going to lie it hard but the programme and the people here will keep you right. Good luck and keep checking in here. It really helps keep you progressing. 👍👍
Keep at it I thought no way could I do this when I started week 1 and this morning just did W7R2. It’s taken me 10 weeks to get here but so proud of myself. My advice listen to your body and go with it. Lots of luck. 👍
Well done for doing the hardest part - starting! youll soon get the running bug. Just make sure you do the warm ups/downs and take it steady. It really is just one foot in front of the other
Take care, stay safe and enjoy your fitness journey.
Great start Lolsytom, take each run as they come, some will seem harder than others but you will enjoy it. Do not expect weight to just fall off, that requires adjusting your diet, but it happens as the runs get longer.
I have 2 tips, always take your rest days and take an extra one if your body needs it and go as slow as you need to to complete the run.
Hi Lauren
Keep going. I just did my first 20 Mon run(more a fast plod) this am. Got up at 6 am to avoid the new crowds on the park in case I made a total fool of myself by collapsing in a heap. But no.. Michael J kept me going.
Keep at it.
I am over weight and nearer the do not ventilate age than I'd like to be but really proud of my achievements so far. You will be too. Just keep plodding on.
Hi Lauren,
Stay with this, I was a bit embarrassed to start with but everyone was very kind and supportive and it makes you feel good about yourself, so important at the moment,
I’m 64 and it’s great being able to do the simple things like chasing the dog around on the beach ,
Keep going you will be surprised how good it makes you feel🏃♂️🐕😃
We have all got to start somewhere, You have completed the hardest part, that’s getting out there and doing it rather than thinking about it well done 👍
Well done for taking the first step 🏃🏻🏃🏻
Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
Enjoy your journey.
Congratulations on you first run . You have made a start towards changing your future . 🐾
Good luck - hope it will be the best decision of your life!
I've just finished my first week! I'm very unfit also but feeling better with myself! We can do it!
Well done for starting your journey! You will love this plan - honest. I started for the same reasons as you unfit and need to lose weight. Well I’ve just finished wk 7, I feel so much better in myself and I’ve lost some weight. Enjoy!!
Well done for Starting. I have been doing this since the end of Jan. I spent 5 weeks on week one, two on week 2 and 3 and just completed week four. I will probably stay on week four for a while. My point being, take it at your own pace. Start slow. Celebrate every achievement. I started to feel better from the first week, even though I am super unfit and it was hard. I hope you do too. We're all cheering you on in the background! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Welcome to the club, I hope you keep it up and achieve your goals. This is a great way to keepfit, 18 months after starting C25K I am still running, and whilst my weight is still a work in progress I feel much fitter. Running has also improved my self esteem and mental health. Good Luck
That’s amazing. Well done you!! Even just to feel fitter it shows it’s doing something!! I’m really overweight so I’m hoping this will help me to lose weight too. We can only try!! Good luck x
That's amazing! I know the biggest battle is overcoming the confidence, but once I started I didn't want to stop. I've signed up for a 10k run though but even if the event does get cancelled it cant stop me from this momentum. I'm going to be on week 7, and when I started I could not even imagine I could run. My fitness isnt great but I still find time to build up my endurance by doing grit classes (which I'm still rubbish at) and I've been using free apps with home workouts at the moment. This is the perfect opportunity to keep growing and defy the expectation that you will gain weight by being in lockdown. Where theres a will there is a way 🙂 Sending you lots of positive vibes and good luck!
Well done for doing run 1, that’s the hardest step, we all started out the same, trust the programme and keep it steady and you’ll be fine 👍 I was happy sitting on the sofa drinking beer and eating pizza when I started 😂 now I’ve graduated and I run 3x 5k per week and I even own a fair bit of running clothing 😂😂 everyone says this because it’s true “if I can do it, anyone can”
Good luck and most importantly enjoy your journey 😊
Great to see you starting out on "your future healthy you" journey. You will get incredible motivation and support from this group. I did. I got to week 8 and then tore a muscle... so had to rest up for circa 6 weeks... which has turned into 5 -6 months due to work, Christmas, work and now "this" new life. However, the weather is turning, I've started walking a bit each day, will be doing a little bit of Joe Wickes and am going to restart at week 1 tomorrow so that I can feel the positives of each run...because I happened to read your post...so thanks for starting too!
Ahhhh that’s such a shame you got that far & then got an injury!! But well done to you for pushing through. At least you know what to expect when starting from week one, you will absolutely ace it! Take it easy, you don’t want to injure yourself further. Wow that’s amazing and put a smile on my face. The first time anyone’s ever said that. Thank you. Have a lovely day & good luck with your run!! Take care x
Well done for doing the first run, yes its hard as it is for most people but keep at it. Like some I started last year sometime and because if various things I am still going. Some days I go out and think I cant do this but I think dont be silly, you can. I keep going and get to the end of each run and feel great. I am currently on week 7 and yes it gets hard at times but that feeling of achievement when you have done it is great. All the best!
