White Rabbits... Pinch Punch...First if the month... and yes...

Here I am, yet again with a new post to delight you all... I hope!

Serious thoughts first...I think many of us now realise that we are in for a long haul, due to the C virus. This is most definitely going to be a marathon and not a sprint!

Acceptance will be the hardest thing to master... and having accepted... focusing on the future and planning the days ahead:)

For all us us the impact of what is happening is manifesting itself in many ways... I have had a, not happy week as my Son in Law's father had another massive stroke, ( Previous one nearly twenty years ago), last Tuesday and died on Friday; horrendous at any time, but currently unbelievably so.

My daughter's husband is the only son in the area, so his shoulders are bearing the weight and it is a worry.

I have, also, foregone outside running, other than my garden; the decision made because of some folk who still seem completely oblivious, of the restrictions in place and the advice and information being given. For those that know me, this is really hard! I am a roaming, rambling snail by nature:)

I am also supplementing this with work on my elliptical and my treadmill... I had these way, before the current situation and am really glad of them. I am extremely lucky to have them.

So... at whatever level of running we are, it may be a good time to gather our thoughts a tad.

Past, Off the Couch posts have covered exercises and indoor running too.. with loads of ideas from all of you.

They are there, if you look in the Pinned posts.

I thought today, it might be useful to do a bit of a checklist of ideas for keeping us all going.

If you are able to run outdoors, once a day, safely and you feel comfortable doing so...that is fine

. Do not feel pressured at any time... the runs and we will wait:)

Make sure you are eating healthily and hydrating well, just as we do all the time with our running.

Keep up those strength and stamina exercises on some of your rest days.

If you are unable to run outdoors... then we have suggested ways that you may be able to do some running,in previous posts.

Extra strength and stamina work could be useful here too, and there are so many links in Strength and Flex and in previous Off the Couch pinned posts.

healthunlocked.com/strength...

Whether you are running indoors or outdoors, do make sure that you do have some real rest days too. Do things which relax you, and please you... but try to rest the mind and the body. These are very, very stressful times for each and everyone of us.

Again, there is a wealth of information on the forums.

Here are a few extra links to some ideas to keep us happy over the next months.

Although, non running related, I realise many of you have small ones and not so small, at home. The weather is, or should be improving and getting warmer, but it is going to be tricky to keep them both occupied, happy and healthy:)

So I am just going to add a few links here with ideas for getting in the garden or any open space you may have?

woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2...

outdoorpeople.org.uk/blogs/...

There are some great ideas here, too if you scout around.

todaysparent.com/family/act...

New ideas for us to keep moving. I am following some great links from roseabi ... Holly Dolke and Indoor walking and exercise... simply fabulous!

healthunlocked.com/strength...

These look good too:)

worldathletics.org/be-activ...

goodhousekeeping.com/uk/hea...

Book mark the pages maybe and have a browse through, when you have time..

runnersblueprint.com/no-equ...

So... food for thought maybe?

I am also having so much fun reading through all the innovative ideas folk are having if they have to run inside...

and I finish this post leaving you with the image in your head of me...69 ( 70 years on Friday), old snail, jigging up and down to one of these... Check it out,,it is the Under the Sea one:)

thisgirlcan.co.uk/activitie...

And...I even got Mr OF to join in too!!!

Whatever you are doing, wherever you are running or exercising, stay strong stay safe and, to coin a phrase from our amazing IannodaTruffe , keep smiling.

This running family are all in this, together and together,we can do it!

Please,

Post your replies and let us all know what you are up to, and how you are fitting your runs and or your exercise into your days and nights:)

Looking forward to reading your posts !

Love Oldfloss x

PS

Just added another indoor link too!

Happy big birthday for Friday Floss! Guess it will just be the two of you for the 🥳.

Folks round here are keeping their distance well and thanking each other for swerving! I managed 5.8k today on roads and fields and hardly saw anyone. My daughter has converted me to Jeffing so that’s what I do now. RunWalkRun intervals. I do 30:30 secs.

Happy Birthday for Friday Floss, I will raise a glass to you. 😀❤️. I have been doing my cross training and I have built up from my 15 min last week to 20 min this week. The body and brain are adjusting. Last week I think all of me was fighting it so I didn’t get aa much relaxation from my exercise as I usually do but this week it has felt better and I have accepted it so am getting better benefits. Exercise is after all 80% mental and 20% physical in my way of thinking. Stay safe and look after you both. Rfc x

So sorry to hear about your sad week.

Yes, lots of ideas for indoor exercise on YouTube. I tried Holly Dolke’s Indoor Walking part 2 today - very good.

Good reminder about having some complete rest days, I am finding it hard to stop - maybe my way of dealing with the stress?

Wishing you a VERY Happy Birthday on Friday 😊🎂🎉🍷

Very sorry to hear such sad news. Thanks so much for thinking of us and posting all those links.

I complete week 8 tomorrow. I'm still running outside but I now think of myself as a Running Ninja - eagle eye out for other people and now have perfected my ducking and swerving techniques on areas of the park that leave room for evasive action.

I live in a flat with a tiny garden so I would go bonkers if I couldn't get out!

Hope you have a lovely birthday on Friday and get spoiled rotten! Xxx

Sorry to read the sad news, these are such worrying times.

Some of the things I do during lock-down to stay sane are very simple but give me joy:

non-running:

Freshly ground and freshly brewed coffee

Using some posh toiletries and having a relaxing bubble bath

Baking a tiny 1-egg sponge cake - all the fun of a regular cake but fewer calories and still a chance to lick the mixing bowl!

arts and crafts with my kid

lighting scented candles

running:

watching the weather reports and running when the sunshine is out

listening to the birds

making a playlist with happy tunes and a beat that encourages my pace

exchanging smiles with other runners

getting up extra early to catch a golden sunrise

I have altered my route to abide by social-distancing rules after having to abandon my beloved lake trail due to narrow sections of path and a few random folks who do not take social distancing seriously. I now go on pavements (and slower in order to be gentle on my knees) but at least they are wide, open spaces.

Have a lovely birthday and good luck with the indoor exercise :)

Absolutely perfect....! getting the runs in...but using this time to find beauty and joy in so many other things which we have little time for ordinarily!

I feel that this dreadful situation will make so many of us re think life and the patterns of our life and embrace some lost pleasures once more.

Have a wonderful day ! Thanks you!

I’m so sorry Floss for your son in law and daughters loss. I know we all face losing our parents one day but to lose one now during these stressful times is especially heartbreaking and difficult. Huge hugs to to you and your family. Have a wonderful 70th birthday on Friday and so glad that you and Mr OF are cracking out the bolly dahlings! Chin chin! What a cause for celebration. Cheers to you and your family keep safe 🥂❤️ xx

Thank you so much... it is my son i law and family we feel for.. we simply cannot be helpful and he is doing all the work right now, but with restrictions, will only be able to visit his Mum maybe once more...

I am face timing with her each afternoon and we chat over a cuppa!

I have actually got a bottle of Bolly!!! Official opening of my Birthday Present .. a wooden greenhouse too... seed planting will commence!

Thanks you xxx

Now, that greenhouse sounds wonderful, happy growing 💐🥕🥦🥔 and while you can’t physically be there for her I know a chat over a cuppa with you would be just lovely. I was reading about a young woman today whose Nan was brought up during WW2 who just before lockdown said to her its okay that we can’t hug at the moment but I’m always hugging you in my heart. ❤️ Xxx

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to lexi6

I love that! I used to carry around a little card that was given to me by Mr OF.. a hug in your pocket card!

I cannot wait to officially open the greenhouse... very over excited!
