Hi everyone!
I'm going to do my best to make this a regular feature, posting my thoughts on online indoor workouts I have tried out. Follow me to get email notifications when I post, and we can work out together! πππ
First up is this Indoor Walking Workout by an online trainer called Holly Dolke. This was literally one of the first workouts I found when I did a search for indoor workouts on YouTube last week π
β Spoiler: I thought it was really good!
This workout is specifically designed to be done indoors, and as an alternative to running. It alternates between 30 seconds of marching in place, and 30 seconds of a strengthening/conditioning movement. At the start, Holly proclaims her hatred of running (boo!), makes a lot of bogus claims about how this workout will help you lose weight (only if combined with a calorie-controlled diet, folks!), and treats us to an advertisement for her workout outfit (sponsorship, fair enough). If you want to miss out on all that I suggest you start it at 48 seconds in.
I found that the workout was nice and quick, and easy to do with limited space. I thought that the exercises were challenging enough for me (some modifications are suggested), and they raised my heart rate nicely (also see my workout on Strava: strava.com/activities/32136... ). You could increase the cardio effect by jogging on the spot instead of just marching. I really liked how the videos show what's coming up next when you're getting near the end of a 30 second segment, helping you to prepare - handy because, although most of the exercises are standing, a few are down on the floor. The music is okaaaaay, not my favourite genre, but fine for keeping a beat to work out to.
The exercises included between the 30s marching segments are: Knee to elbow; Side lunges; Arm circles; Standing floor taps; Leg raises x 2 (each leg); Step & tap with triceps; Bicycle crunches; Slow mountain climbers; Pushups; Reverse lunges; Jumping side twists; Plie squats; Standing ab crunches.
All in all, a very enjoyable workout - give it a try!
Next up, Joe Wicks πππ
