Educating Enid - Running Fights Fear

Nilsam profile image

My "inner Enid" wanted to use our running techniques to go stockpile shopping because she was worried about the Covid-19 virus.

Instead, I have decided to take Enid for a lovely mindful run to clear our head. It is important to stay strong and healthy in the current climate and put our fears in their place. Take care. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ€πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

A brilliant programme. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ€πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I think a lot of its scaremongering myself and I have just had an upset myself on another board after a discussion I started yesterday turned nasty so I took the post down.

What is brilliant, Catgirl1976, is that you now know digital techniques to protect yourself too. "Block, delete...read supportive feedback to feed your brain again". Take care. 🀝😎

in reply to Nilsam

There's always a lesson in these things isn't there?

It was just getting silly so I had asked for it to be shut down and then I deleted it myself and muted the ones who made the hurtful comments.

I was quite upset though when a poster said if you have that attitude leaving after 15 mins after a late interview then it's not surprising you still haven't got a job and also that I am precious and should grow up.

The one making those comments is just a spiteful bitter woman who's only source of enjoyment in life is to make people miserable in my view.

Nilsam profile image
NilsamGraduate in reply to

I am so sorry that you had to read such spiteful comments when others have no idea of what some people go through just to get the courage to walk out the door. It is our duty to be kind to each other and to yourself, Catgirl1976.

I am so pleased that you are now seeing how foolish people are when they are ignorant. Take care... we don't know what wonders may be just around the corner. πŸ€πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

in reply to Nilsam

I know cognitively that it's the people who make the comments that have the problem but when you are upset cognition goes out of the window!

There was no need to have been like that just because I had posted about leaving an interview after being kept waiting for 15 minutes the other day.

I want to know what was it about me having done that that upset them so much and why as it doesn't affect them does it?

Perhaps they did mean well but what exactly is meant well about grow up and stop being precious and you will never get a job with your attitude and if you are like that then it's no wonder you still haven't got a job!

Where's the good intentions in those things anyway? No there weren't any just said in spitefulness in my view but I have calmed down now and I am off to the cinema later on and then its Welsh class this evening with the nice tutor who was bullied out of a job as well and has been really nice and helpful.

Next step is I will carry on with life and wait for natural justice to come round as what goes around comes around eventually!

Wenderwoo profile image
WenderwooGraduate in reply to

Try not to worry about what an unknown keyboard warrior posts - who cares what they think? Social media can be a hornets nest, and many people are just looking for confrontation behind their anonymous screens. You did right to walk away and delete it. The beauty of this forum is that it is very unusual, in that that doesn’t seem to happen here, which is rare indeed in the social media world. Don’t give it a second thought 😁

Nilsam profile image
NilsamGraduate in reply to Wenderwoo

Well put, Wenderwoo.

in reply to Wenderwoo

Just come back from town and the cinema with my mate and we have had a chat about what happened this morning and she says that I will get snapped up when the time is right for me!

I have calmed down now and perhaps it was silly to have walked out after waiting 15 minutes and we all make mistakes and do stupid things at times as no ones perfect but to say my situation was all my fault was just pure malice really.

Perhaps I do have faults but do does everyone else but at least I'm not a spiteful bitter woman who's only source of enjoyment in life is to make people miserable just to feel good about themselves!

Nilsam profile image
NilsamGraduate in reply to

Well done, Catgirl1976. Have an enjoyable time at the cinema and at Welsh class. Take care. πŸ‘

in reply to Nilsam

We went to see military wives which I really enjoyed and had a late breakfast beforehand and a chat about things and my friend says how we all have bad days and make mistakes but there had no need to be spiteful towards me over it!

There's worse things in life than that and we all have our faults but in no way does that make me a horrible person who doesn't deserve anything good to happen like what was implied this morning!

Looks like our trip to London on Saturday is going to be cancelled due to that virus as the lady has written to us all trying to let us down gently saying she is waiting for head office to confirm if the trip is going or not on Saturday so I am having a think about alternative things to do I fancy should it be cancelled as I assume it is myself.

I was born in 1960.

Before I was ten, we were in a panic because nuclear bombs were going to wipe us out.

Before I was 20, the oil was going to be all used up by 1992 and we were doomed.

Before I was 30, AIDS was going to do for everyone, "You can even catch it from water fountains!'

Before I was forty - "GLOBAL WARMING - we are doomed. Y2K willscrew us too!!!

Gets a bit hazy after that - Ebola, Zika, SARS, etc etc.

And now, just a couple of months before I'm 60 - Corona is going to knacker me and everyone I know.

Actually, I'm getting fed up waiting to be annihilated so sod that for a game of soldiers - I'm going to enjoy today, 'cos really that is all we are guaranteed when it comes to what may happen tomorrow or any other future day :)

In 1984 I landed in Calcutta just in time to be in the midst of a Dysentery epidemic that killed roughly 5,000 ( yes, Five Thousand) men, women and children in the space of a few weeks. I've always appreciated ever since how priveleged we are in more prosperous nation's. I'm also disgusted at how so many see this privilege as a Self-Centered entitlement. This Virus is bad, no doubt- but I find the hoarders, price gougers, deliberately panic generators (media for starters), anti-vaxxer ignoramuses and various self appointed "health experts" to be a worse plague on society.

Keep calm, wash hands, no touch face, no coughing into airspace, avoid where sensible crowds, keepyour head high, and carry on running - you know it makes sense, and the heck with those who make none :)

in reply to Irish-John

There's always something isn't there that they try to frighten you with!

Irish-John profile image
Irish-JohnGraduate in reply to

Media has to sell advertising, and simple-minded fill have to have their drama. It gets old watching it. Thank goodness for being able to go out and just run :)

in reply to Irish-John

I'm off to the cinema today with my friend and feel it is well deserved after I had an upset earlier on and got told some really nasty and spiteful things and my friend said to me when I told her what had been said that it was all my fault I was unemployed and to grow up all because I left an interview after I had been waiting 15 minutes for it to start.

She said how that's a nasty thing to say to somebody and it's not as black and white as things solely being someone's fault!

Perhaps it wasn't the best of moves that I did and we all make mistakes and do stupid things but there was no need to say those nasty things to me though.

Why so angry though is what I want to know?

Nilsam profile image
NilsamGraduate in reply to Irish-John

Oh wow, Irish-John, what a post. We are the same era. And yes, maybe prior to fast media communication one just didn't know what was happening in the next town and didn't worry about it But we have it now and have to learn not how to deal with it and not to panic.

There is a lot of terrible sadness in the world with this virus and many other issues. These people suffering have my greatest sympathy.

Great summary in the last paragraph, Irish-John. Take care and happy running. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ€πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

in reply to Nilsam

I remember the old days when the news was only on a couple of times a day myself.

I'm sorry for those suffering of course I am but the hysteria has gone too far in my view and I'm all for taking sensible precautions but the hysteria has just got silly in my view!

I have taken a break from some of the boards as the talk about this virus was getting me upset and I may go back when I am feeling better.

So succinct!

I told my sister that I was in Costco yesterday, somewhat snidely she asked if I was panic buying. Well yes I said, if 1 loaf, 1 jar of Skippy crunchy peanut butter and a jar of jam counts, then yes I am, because I cannot do without the Skippy!.

Hope you are keeping well 😘

Reminds me of the two guys sharing a Flat.

One of them came home and saw 20 bottles of vodka, two loaves of bread, ten crates of beer and five flagons of cider on the table.

"Are we having a party" he asked.

"No" replied his Flatmate

"Then why did you buy two loaves of bread?"

Snap! I've been planting the garlic today too. I re-arranged my afternoon to get it done. The ground is still soggy though.
