Educating Enid - Any day can be Day 1!

My "inner Enid" had read lots about yoga & stretching for runners and we had planned to do a month long programme starting 1st February. Unfortunately life got in the way and we are now on the 3rd day.

Enid said, "It is too late now and it would be better to wait until next month or even next year."

I said, "We start today because any day can be Day 1 of our lifestyle improvement programme!"

Ooh she is not going to like it...but I do. 😁

I love yoga πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ - just walked home from my morning class. Enid’s doing a beautiful down-dog pose. I’m sure she’ll love it 😊 and come round to your way of thinking πŸ˜‰ eventually.....

Thank you, Delly-dot. I do hope so too. πŸ‘€πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Point is health and fitness isn't all or nothing. Just a short walk is better than no walk at all on days when you can't fit a full workout in.

Oh definitely, Catgirl1976. In my eyes, big stretches unloading the dishwasher and reaching up into cupboards on tippy toes still counts. πŸ‘πŸ˜

Roxdog profile image
RoxdogGraduate in reply to Nilsam

So you have started tippytoes stretches to cupboards too! I am relishing those stretches! Hamstrings are a bit snuggly so am finding all sorts of ways of stretching during daily activities!

Phew...

Roxdog profile image
RoxdogGraduate in reply to Roxdog

Not snuggly (I wish), niggly! Blasted autocorrect!

Nilsam profile image
NilsamGraduate in reply to Roxdog

I liked snuggly...sort of sleepy muscles...πŸ‘

Nilsam profile image
NilsamGraduate in reply to Roxdog

I do indeed. Even cleaning my teeth on one leg then up & down on the toes...nearly ended up in the bath. πŸ›

Yay, Enid doing the downward dog, excellent! 😁. I’ve done a bit myself after doing my cool down stretching. Also tried the plank in prep for the planketty plankathon challenge πŸ˜–

Nilsam profile image
NilsamGraduate in reply to Wenderwoo

Oooh looking forward to the Planketty plank sessions too...I think. Bit scared. Gosh, I contradict myself all the time. Aaah those doubting voices. πŸ‘

Roxdog profile image
RoxdogGraduate in reply to Nilsam

Oh I'm scared too! I can manage about 20 seconds of plank! Got to be done though...

Yeah, we are all in it together. This the image of me face planting the floor...πŸ™‡β€β™€οΈ It could be an emoji that ends up in our favourites. (Oh do be quiet Enid.)

Fabulous! Tell Enid I agree and will be doing that as soon as ribs allow. By the looks of her I'm not that stretchy! Keep it up!!

Nilsam profile image
NilsamGraduate in reply to apatsyf

Thank you, Apatsyf. Hope your ribs are ok. Enid sat in the corner after that move and I carried on. πŸ‘It may be my ribs that ache in the morning. πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Oh I have one of them "inner Enid's"!! She unfortunately has prevented me from doing many things I should have just done or started.

There was always this necessity to have all the ducks in a row before doing something!!..then I realized well hell, life is just passing me by, because of an enormous list of things that "inner Enid" thinks I have to get done before I do anything...

Sod inner Enid!! Do whatever, start whatever, try whatever your heart desires whenever!!!!

Inner Enid can just sit in the corner with her sour face while you enjoy yourself!!πŸ˜‚

Nilsam profile image
NilsamGraduate in reply to Tigertailor

Ooh I love it, well done, Tigertailor. We've told them. I have to say it is not just Enid who was going "Ooh ahhh" during the stretches but it's the inner self righteous glow afterwards that makes it worth it. πŸ‘πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Brilliant!! πŸ‘You keep going and channeling that inner glow!!!😊

Thank you, Dexy5. There are definitely a lot of Yoga runners out there. πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘

I do Pilates and Yogalates but there is some overlap.

Love Enid doing downward facing dog!

You are so dedicated to this! Yoga sorted out my knees a few years ago- I am afraid my inner voice is telling me I don't have time to do more than 10 minutes before work! Note to self - must get up earlier and do half an hour!

Nilsam profile image
NilsamGraduate in reply to Roxdog

Ooh now I feel guilty...yet motivated...right...if you can I can. πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

I do hope one day all the inner people don't club together and convince us that sitting round with a nice cup of tea would be better. At least typing of this forum becomes our coffee shop equivalent, doesn't it?

Roxdog profile image
RoxdogGraduate in reply to Nilsam

Oh my inner person is telling me not to run today - too cold/windy. I am winning though! 4.00pm sharp!

Nilsam profile image
NilsamGraduate in reply to Roxdog

Well done.πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Hope it goes well for you. It was windy by us too. 🌫

Oh it was hard work but I did it! My arthritic knees are complaining a bit - I'll need an ice pack I think (Hope it doesn't become a problem). Oh well, back to the knee strengthening exercises!

I did overtake some steady pace walkers who got out of my way on the canal. I joked with them as I went past (yes I wasn't out of breath) that I wasn't running much faster than they were walking!' πŸ˜‚Hope your run went well.

Nilsam profile image
NilsamGraduate in reply to Roxdog

Thank you, yes, I prodded 4k not 5k but did the 30 mins. So pleased you did it and sorry to hear about your knee. Feet up for the evening at least. πŸ›ŒπŸΌπŸ‘

Roxdog profile image
RoxdogGraduate in reply to Nilsam

Well that's quite an achievement! I'm still not tracking distance at all because I can't be bothered to sort out an app!

Nilsam profile image
NilsamGraduate in reply to Roxdog

Thank you, first time I have checked it against a 30 mins run. I just thought I needed a base line. (That's my excuse. ) πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘

Thank you, GoGo_JoJo. Now I have to work in there being a day 2.

GoGo_JoJo profile image

Yup, know the feeling. I did Day 2 yesterday (on one new routine) another is several weeks in, I'm trying to get lots of things just to be new daily habits, as normal as brushing teeth... good luck 🀞🏻😁

OOh yoga! That's wonderful. I'd like to start yoga too but worry about my knees and hips (arthritis). There seem to be a lot of lunge type positions that I don't think I could do. Hmm... I'll be researching it now 🀨😁

Roxdog profile image
RoxdogGraduate in reply to mom24uk

Yoga is great for arthritis and there are lots of adaptations to the standard poses you do to suit you.

I rehrehabilitated my arthritic knee with yoga!

mom24uk profile image
mom24ukGraduate in reply to Roxdog

That's interesting. Do you have any good links or is it easier to just do an internet search for arthritis and yoga?

Roxdog profile image
RoxdogGraduate in reply to mom24uk

I would do a search. The Adriene youtube videos are well known and she has a huge variety of exercises. You coukd experiment with them to see what suits.

Often the yoga is very similar to the exercises a physiotherapist would prescribe.

Good luck.

Yes, I agree with Roxdog. The Adriene videos pre and post running are very good. πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

I look a lot like Enid on my post-run yoga stretch! I hope you both enjoyed it.
