Fitness Apps Accuracy

We did a consolidation run today and it all went very smoothly. We upped the pace and improved on our time and distance.

However, i notice a variation in the info from the apps i have.

I use an Amazfit bip watch with the MiFit app when running and it gives similar times - but significantly different distances - to the Google Fit app on my phone (which i have with me when running).

Just how accurate are these things?

And do other, more experienced runners, have advice about the best watches/apps to use?

I used to be a big Fitbit fan but they are not that accurate, most of them don’t use GPS and link to your phones GPS. I recently switched to a Garmin Fenix 5x and it’s a lot more sophisticated but more importantly it seems to be a lot more accurate in that I get very similar results when I record the same routes every time. Nothing wrong with Fitbit they are great for the money but the Garmin seems to be a professional instrument which is reflected in the price.

Hi. I have been gifted a Samsung active watch which is brilliant and seems to be accurate with its stats although it struggles with steps whilst pushing a pushchair. The other thing to mention is I have an iPhone and so the watch has limited capabilities because I’m not using a Samsung phone. Just something to bare in mind whilst you are looking 😊
