I did it!

I'm a nearly 69 year old and today I competed the programme in 7 weeks and 4 days. I am now running for 30 minutes but probably not as far as 5 K but that's okay, it's pretty hilly where I live and I am often battling against the wind. Keep going everyone it feels amazing to get there.

Well done you. I am also nearly 69 and have completed, but just over one year ago. If we were young and fit, perhaps we could do 5K in under 30 minutes, but we have to be realistic. My best time was 35:17 at parkrun on a relatively flat course. The best I can do at the moment on our "undulating" course (Bloody big hills!) is 39:57.

I have accepted that I won't crack the 30 minute run and am cool with it. However, youngsters are just a bit better placed.

6 year old No. 1 33 minutes

6 year old No. 2 31 minutes

10 year old 24 minutes

11 year old 30 minutes

I won't even consider posting my son's times, but suffice it to say that he is the quickest! (and he is 38) So don't worry about it, go out and enjoy the run.

Times that stand out is No. 2 and the ten year old who can run a 5K sub 25 minutes.

No. 2 has been a footballer for two years. Although he is fast, he has learn't all about pacing himself.

The ten year old is just awesome! His very first one miler was quicker than his dad could do it. (Bedford Half weekend) He has been running for four years and has found his level. He now runs it at around 28 minutes. He really suffered after the 24 minute run. (He has asthma) Makes my respectable 35:17 look puny! But watch this space in the next couple of years. He wants to run the 5K in 20!

Your time is fine, perhaps you could get to 34.45/59 getting to a sub 35 minute 5K, particularly on a treadmill or outside on a flat course.

Yes that 10 year old will get sub 20 before he is 15.

Today I ran for 30 mins as well, proud of you and myself as I know how difficult it is to stick to the programme, especially with wind, rain and hills to contend with. Congrats!
