Run round Arthur's Seat

Did run 2 of week 5 this evening round Arthur's Seat (Edinburgh) and it was wonderful! Seeing our beautiful city lit up gave me the lift I needed to keep running. I now can't wait to run again! I must say my speed was more tortoise than hare, but I did it!

That’s the route of the EMF 5k in May!

Even though I'm on week 5 I still can't envisage myself running a full 5k although I'm sure when I do the feeling will be fabulous!

It is. Don’t choose EMF for your first one because of the long climb but once you’ve done parkruns etc and practised a wee bit on hills you’d love the EMF 5k. I did it last year. Probably the run I was proudest of in 2019, even though it was by no means a PB, because you do have to accept the uphill bit will add to your time and taking that into account I think it was my best run. I’m doing the 10k version this year.

Brilliant... lucky you and... you know the end to that story of the tortoise and the hare... perfect!

I do count myself very lucky to live in such a beautiful city and being a tortoise allows me more time to look at my surroundings, which does keep my mind off the fact that my legs feel like lead!

When you say 'round' Arthur's Seat, you don't mean 'up' Arthur's Seat, do you? I can't imagine running up that!

Hehe, absolutely not, I need to improve my stamina somewhat before, if ever I attempt hill running!

Thank goodness. I was feeling quite inadequate there for a moment. 😉

That's extremely brave of you. I didn't tackle Arthur's Seat until after graduation when I did the race for life around it last year, and the uphill stretch almost killed me. If you can manage it in W5 you will be truly unstoppable by the end pf the plan.

Thank you. The hills were a real struggle espcially when the seasoned runners whizz by you, but the view from the top road makes it worth while. I just kept saying to myself that will be me one day........and it will!!

Definitely! I only started the plan in March last year, and by the end of 2019 I'd done numerous 5k and 10k runs including the Edinburgh Race For Life 5k and Men's 10k, a couple of 10 milers and a half marathon. So, yeah, after graduation, the world is literally at your feet.
