Hey, I put my new shoes on...

I’ve gave in....

Week 1-2 I personally felt like I smashed, thinking this is totally doable, nice gradual build up and was so excited for week three when the twinging began in my calf and ankle... after reading on here about the importance of running shoes a family member let me borrow their pair. Well that was the WORST decision I’ve made - my legs were killing me before the warmup walk finished, they felt so clumpy and it was as if I had weights around my ankles.

So I’ve given in... I went and bought a pair of running shoes. Can I call myself a runner now? Turns out after gait analysis my ankle tends to roll which would have undoubtedly caused an injury as the weeks go on. The difference to week three run three? Insane. Definitely worth the money. Positive vibes are back! Not going to lie I was psyching myself out about week four and running for five minutes straight but reading posts on here has got me fired up that I can do it!

I’ve got no doubt that some more hurdles will pop up in the next few weeks, and I feel a bit silly for not buying the correct shoes to start with (in my defence I was using Nike trainers so it wasn’t horrendous) but here’s to onwards and upwards and some new shoes! 💪🏼🏃🏻‍♀️

Good to know! I'm going to have to look at getting a proper pair but I'm holding off until I feel I can call myself a runner. Crazy, eh? Glad to hear you sorted out the problem and you're back on track.

Haha I felt the exact same! I thought surely normal workout trainers will do but these stupid ankles had other ideas!

That's exactly how I feel! I'm on W4R2 next and still feel I can't justify it yet!

Good to hear you new shoes have sorted your problems out. I'm still in my Nike trainers at the moment, but will have to treat myself soon. I have done W4R1 this morning and promise you it was fine! It is true the programme really does prepare you for each week. Good luck with it!
