knee pain

Hi everyone, I'm literally just finishing week 2 and am struggling with severe knee pain. My massage therapist tells me it's the MCL on the inside of the knee. it's hurting to even walk now. I'm not in this programme to potentially run in any public events, just to get a bit fitter so don't want to spend a fortune on gait analysis, any clues on what kind of trainers I should try if it's affecting the inner knee like this? I don't want to give up so soon. Thank you

You don't have to spend a fortune on gait analysis, most shops that provide this will do it for free. I would recommend going to an independent running shop rather than a chain store, although I have only been to one of each the experience and advice from the staff was far superior in the independent shop.

I have been advised by many on this forum not to take advice about shoes from others, as everyone has different feet and different needs and so what is perfect for one would ruin another. Get someone with experience to look for you.

Thank you that's good advice. I'm new to all this exercising lark, haven't done anything for years.

apparently you can do gait analysis yourself with a piece of paper and wet feet, however I went to a local shop and they did it for free.

Welcome aboard!

Firstly, have you read the guide? healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

There's loads of info in there regarding minimising impact and on shoes.

Given your current discomfort why not give yourself two days rest between each run? You'll still make progress but you'll give your body more time to adjust

Check out the Strength and Flex forum too for knee exercises to help strengthen your knees.

We have to remember that if this is all new to our bodies then we need to give it a bit more time to get used to the new activity levels. 👍🏻😊
