Well, just the usual. Burn more calories through exercise than you take in through eating. Is that easy? Nope. Possible? You bet. All is required is manic self belief, persistence, loads of discipline and organisation, time, no self pity, and nothing less than hard work. That's it, really.

Slimming world!

Hmmm well I must admit, I'm quite anti-diet.

I know I'm generalizing, but too often the connotation of 'diet' is a radical change for a short to medium amount of time, with a very specific goal.

I'm more into lifestyle change. Taking up a long term exercise schedule (like running 3x per week), making small but significant changes in your daily eating routine. E.g. I gave up a daily breakfast of bacon and hash brown sarnie and now I have fruit instead. Instead of an afternoon snack of a chocolate bar, I have a banana.

Alcohol is also a big factor in weight. Let's see how I do there 🤣.

I dont know what your situation is, and what I'm doing might not work for you. But I'm just trying to make sustainable changes that require no effort, no thought. Just a bit of will power from time to time.

Just a word about C25K... doing this alone, you might find that you're very slow to lose weight, but you will notice a difference in inches as you get fitter and your body becomes more toned.

Hope you find the right plan for you

Yeah alcohol is my downfall but I'm currently doing dry January and seeing if I can carry on afterwards

Thanks for the advice

Good luck with dry January. Me and wife are doing it too.

So far so good, but the weekend is going to be a challenge!

Find something that really matters to motivate you. My mojo comes from wanting to set a good example to my kids, and to last as long as possible because they’re both disabled and if anything happens to me they’re in the soup. That kind of thing is much more sustaining than just wanting to look good.

...I would echo the members tips above. As someone who has been obsessed for years about losing weight and getting on the scales every day (at least once!) I am finally beginning to break the habit of a life time! After managing to lose 2 stone my weight loss became extremely slow and I became more and more frustrated. I took up exercise and C25K and have just started swimming and going to the gym which I never believed I would be doing a few years ago...I feel so much better, healthier and have so much more energy...and that's when I decided before Christmas not to focus on the scales but on how I feel, how my clothes feel. I'm hoping this approach for the New Year will work and you may want to consider trying this as a different approach? Lets face it, we all know what we should and shouldn't eat if we want to lose weight so maybe focus on the your goal...to complete C25K, believing in yourself... and maybe buy that wedding outfit in 3 sizes smaller and keep in eyes view as a reminder...you can do it, the hardest step is the first one you have already taken so wishing you well and good luck :-)

I always think it's a good idea to focus on one thing at a time, plan that, start achieving that, then when that becomes comfortable in your life, plan the next thing to start. So for example, start this C25K and leave the dieting for now, although I think you'll find the healthy eating will follow naturally as you begin to look after your body with the fitness side. Plan the healthier eating once the fitness is comfortable in your life. They say it takes about 4-5 weeks to start a "habit" so give yourself a chance! Small planned steps will lead to giant leaps toward your goal! Good luck! You've got this!!

Absolutely agree. Don't try to change everything at once.

Rather than start a diet, how about keeping a good diary? Just a pocket notebook you can take everywhere and write it down as you go. Sometimes this can be enough to break some if the habit eating we do.

Another option is change your dinner plate to a smaller size to aid portion control 😊

Good luck and happy running Nmg100

Hey 👋 welcome and congratulations on taking the 1st step.

I like you started c25k in a bid to lose weight and ended up halfway through losing weight to help me run. What a boost that was.

I’ve lost 30lbs now. It was not easy but by using a eat a little less move a little more approach. NO SCALES! They only gave me good days wahoo lost a pound at bad days I’ve gaine 3 since yesterday??? How??? Instead tape measure or clothes fit are the better options.

I followed c25k, had 3 non negotiable run days and downloaded a free diet tracker that I just added what I was eating/ drinking whilst doing it( eye opener 👀I’m guessing from mentioning you have 3 weddings next year you have a goal in mind. Really visualise it happening and each time a choice comes your way focus on it ( I hope that make sense)

Anyways good luck on your journey, you’ll get lots of support here xx
