Run of shame.

You 'orrible lot. What did you make me do? Run! That's what you made me do, run!

I've been happily devouring delicious Christmas feast after Christmas feast, lovingly put together by my amazing wife. Grazing on a plethora of cheeses, Spanish and Italian meats, olives and a whole host of other goodies.

All of this washed down with a vat of wines, Champagne, Baileys, port, whisky and anything else I could get my hands on.

And what are you guys doing? Completing C25K, running PBs, first park runs, first races, first 5ks. You make me sick ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

And so today, I could stand it no more. The shame'ometer had reached its peak. I put on my shiny new running gear (fantastic prezzies from Snowgdss) and with the help of a large crane, I got out of the dent in the sofa, shaped perfectly to fit my butt, and did my first consolidation run since graduating over a week ago. A week!!! I know!!!

And I picked a new route. Far more undulating than my regular route. A bit more broken, with more roads to cross and people to avoid (without getting run over), and its circular! Not simply running down hill and back up again.

I think I'm going to be spending the next few runs experimenting with different routes until I find one i''m happy with. That said, now I've graduated, I've no idea what I'm going to do next. But at least the shame'ometer has now reset to zero!!!

As for Snowgdss, she's still having a tough time with her foot. She was planning to just rest it for a week and see how it felt. But, I'm sure you can imagine after reading this post, she hasn't done nearly enough resting!

Happy running everybody. You're all doing great!

Sorry about Snowgdss, I hope she gets better soon, you should have ran a 5K just after eating and drinking all that food and drink that your wife gave you, yes, straight after it, that would have reduced the calories a little.

Enjoy your runs and I hope you have many happy runs in 2020.

๐Ÿคฃ oh yes, running straight after one of those feasts would certainly have reduced the calories that my body absorbed! Good plan!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ glad youโ€™re back out there, donโ€™t leave all the fun and hard work to us. Weโ€™ve praised and supported you so the least you can do is consolidate in that lovely new kit of yours๐Ÿ˜‰ and now you have, and hopefully remember what fun it is. Lovely new routes too, brilliant. You can always pop over the bridge to 10k to see whatโ€™s going on the other side ๐Ÿ‘ happy running

:-) I really enjoy being part of the gang. I definitely wont stop now! I'm toying with the idea of 10k. Just a little concerned about finding the time!

Grannyhugs profile image
GrannyhugsGraduate in reply to RunningMigster

Have a look at the 10k plan over the bridge, it does 2short runs and a longer run. There is no doubt though you need loads more time when your longer one does get longer. I missed out the 2weeks with 9k for long runs as weather was so cold I couldnโ€™t fit in the longer runs and just blasted onto 10k judging it was only 1 more. That then freed me up to go back to shorter runs only doing long when I felt like it. Enjoy a few weeks just running first though.

Funny thing is, we moved house a few short months ago, and soon realised that there is a 10k charity run that finishes about 30 seconds walk from our house. We were giving cups of tea to the race officials!

This was the final catalyst for starting C25k.

It would be really nice to one day take part, and be able to run all the way round and end up at home ๐Ÿ˜„

GrannyhugsGraduate in reply to RunningMigster

Perfect - you should definitely do that.

I had a sneaky peak at the plan to get to 10k. Must admit, I do like the idea of having structure to my running. Maybe, just maybe, at the end of Jan, I might give it a go!

Thatโ€™s made me chuckle. Well done for getting back out there but it sounds like youโ€™ve had a fabulous Christmas ๐Ÿ˜Š

I wont lie, it felt good to be out running again! But yes, Christmas will take a while to run off ๐Ÿ˜†

Great you managed to get out of the butt shaped dent on your couch. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

New routes are brilliant to explore it really helps keep your running interesting.

Hope your wife gets a well deserved rest now that your up and about๐Ÿ˜Š

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Buddy34

I'm still learning!

The route was 5k when I planned it out. But I didn't factor in the warm up walk. So even though I ran slower than any point in my last week, meaning I didnt even do 4.5k, I could still see my front door when the 30 minutes was up!

Lots of route experimentation to be had!

I used this a while back

plotaroute.com/routeplanner

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Buddy34

I tried that this morning. I think I prefer the one built into Google Maps. But I'm going to try to plot the same route with both and see which is easiest

I did have a laugh thinking of that crane in your living room. My own shameometer has just exploded after a week of no running and has told me tomorrow there is no excuse for not strapping in my enormous tum and getting out there.

Glad you had a great Christmas. Enjoy exploring your new routes - I reckon that 10k run will be within your grasp in no time...... ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

You know that you actually have to get out and run today dont you? You've put it on here so it's now legally binding :-)

Hope you enjoyed Christmas. Normal service will soon be resumed

You are never allowed to stop running now migs, especially with those posts mate! You do make me chuckle! I can imagine the effort it took to get out of the sofa butt Christmas crevass!! Well done for doing it!

I am thinking about trying out a circular route (I have some that are only 3.5k and I need a 5k and some extras too!) but need to figure out where they are! I think I am going to try buddy's suggested site and see how that works.

Hope snow is OK, tell her to get herself to a docs if it is still hurting (and she hasn't already done so) and send her some forum love and healing vibes! I can't imagine the frustration she must be feeling about it, bless her. ๐Ÿ˜”โค๏ธ

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Smelliepoo

You're right, I can never stop. I think a week is about as long as I can go! Quite happy that I got back into my stride with no issues though.

It's tough to come up with new routes. I've looked at the link Buddy gave and I quite like that. Google maps does something similar. If you drop a pin where you want to start, then tap on the pin and you get the option to measure distance.

Snowgdss needs some serious TLC. I think it will be a while before she is out running again :-(

I have zero complaints with our Christmas. I even squeezed in a day of work on Friday. Just to show willing :-)

Christmas is a time to indulge the inner sloth who mostly lies dormant but you are a runner now. And you have new running gear so get out there and pound some ground.

Hark at me, whilst I have been trotting out regularly, I have been film bingeing and eating and drinking way too much.

Happy running for the NY , hope your wife is soon on the mend. I love the fact you run together.

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Runningroni

The inner sloth has been over indulged this year ๐Ÿ˜†. All the more reason to get out and run, right?

Poor Snowgdss. She's been a great source of encouragement and I know she's feeling very frustrated right now. We'll get there!

Speedy60 profile image
Speedy60Graduate

There, you did it. I like to think I contributed to the shameometre!

I like pottering about finding new routes. I don't like laps of my estate and only do them after dark or when the weather is bad. Every time I go passed the end of my road, I have to talk myself out of stopping. There is a nice route round a local park and seafront that includes a hill, but I have to get in the car. That leaves me with my original c25k route. I stumbled on it (literally ๐Ÿ˜) first time out and it hasn't changed much, except that I used to walk the last bit home after Laura told me to stop running, and now I run all the way.

Happy running ๐Ÿ‘

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Speedy60

There is a finger pointing firmly in your direction. Yes you are one of those pesky, dedicated runners that shamed me ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ.

I've realised that part of being a runner, is coming up with new routes and working out which ones work and which dont.

The one I ran last night looked great on a map, but I'm just not used to crossing to many roads, which of course disrupts your rhythm.

More study time needed!

Speedy60 profile image
Speedy60Graduate

'Dedicated' definitely isn't how I'd describe my running! Determined maybe. Bloodyminded?

I've found the best tactic is to talk myself into the identity. By that I mean I talk to my friends, my kids, and on here about running so it's just too difficult to give up. My kids have been very encouraging and seem quite proud that their 59 year old mum is getting out there. I don't want to let them down now.

My next big decision is a pair of decent shoes. I daren't give up after that investment.

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Speedy60

That's exactly the reason I posted here after every run. Making myself accountable to this forum really helped me stick at it. I'm lucky to have a wife who has also been a huge source of encouragement too!

Re: shoes, you'll be surprised what a difference they make. If you haven't already, get gait analysis done. I thought it was all poppycock until I went and got it done. But it really does help you get the right pair of trainers for you. It's made so much difference to me. I dont notice so much during the run, but I did instantly notice a reduction in aches and niggles after each run.

๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃso you made a little piggy of yourself with all that wonderful food but got out there to run it off- great result! Poor Snowgdss with poorly foot and hope she is on mend. Sympathies as I was suffering too . Enjoy all that shiny new kit ๐Ÿ˜Ž. You have inspired or shamed me into doing lots of heel drops for rehab!
