Decided to kick of my New Years resolution a few days early and have just done the first run. Honestly shocked at how hard I found that but know it can only get easier, right??

Congratulations on your first run of C25K! It’s a fantastic program and you’ll be amazed at the progress you make as the weeks go on. I can’t say it gets easier, but you’d be surprised at what your body can do when you put your mind to it.

Also, if you’re finding it tricky it may be that you’re going too fast. Next time, start off slow and then slow down again; it really is the key to success.

Keep at it 💪🏼

Good for you! No, it's not a walk in the park 😉, It takes a bit of effort, but the rewards, if you're prepared to persevere, are enormous. You can do it. Don't worry if you feel you have to repeat runs, or whole weeks, we've all done it. Take it slowly, read the pinned post for all the best advice and let us all know how you get on for shared stories and encouragement.

Try not to think of it as a New Year's resolution. It's not penance for bad habits, it's an adventure and a new habit for life. Enjoy 👍

Welcome! Running, it turns out, is very different from even brisk walking. Lots of us have been surprised.... 😄 But even if it doesn’t feel easier as you go along, when you look back after even a couple of weeks, you’ll probably be surprised at what progress you’ve made. Do read the pinned post for new runners by IannodaTruffe. It explains lots of things and has excellent links out to more that you might want to know someday. And have fun mastering a new skill! 👍👏🏼

Thank you all for the lovely welcome. I have signed up for my first official 5k in 12 weeks so no turning back now 😬

Well done for starting.

BUT remember c25k doesnt mean its to get you to run 5k!!

This programme is to run 30 mins in 9 weeks, but many take longer. And the actual distance doesnt matter.

So depending on your age, fitness etc dont expect to do 5k in 30 mins.

When the advice is take it "slow" it means slow or even slower. Stay injury free.

I started Sep 2018 completing c25k easily and my 1st 5k parkrun in Jan 2019. Then calf and achile probs, 3 months reconciliaton, and now regular 35 - 33 min 5ks.

Enjoy it and report back on your progress.

Welcome to the gang and good for you for getting going.

You've just completed what is probably the hardest run of the program. Others might feel tough, but that's when your mental determination comes in. This one is a shock to mind and body! But dont worry, by the end of week two, you'll be feeling so much better about it all

Keep posting and let us know how you get on. You wont regret it!

Hi KiwiRunner I’m with you on just finishing W1R1! I do remember it getting easier if you keep it slow as Hidden says but I stopped the programme at around week 4 last time (was with a group and found it off putting) so couldn’t say from then on. Hopefully we’ll both find out!

Congratulations for getting started. Take it slow, finish each run with the ability to talk a little so you look forward rather than dread the next run. Plenty time in the future to think about speed. Happy running

Congrats on getting started!

In many ways it does get easier from here - you’ve made one of the hardest steps which is making the commitment in the first place.

The first few weeks I really knackered myself by running too fast and “bouncing” quite a lot (which Laura advises against) so best tip for Run 2 is to find a comfortable pace for you.

Good luck! :)

Well done for starting 😊 That’s the hardest part....actually getting out there and doing it!!! Stick with the programme and you should be pleasantly surprised at how fantastic it feels to run :)

Keep those thoughts in your head - it gets easier the more you stick with it. I have found running one of the most amazing and joyous things I have done in recent years. Keep us all in the picture and good luck.

Hi KiwiRunner.

Congratulations on starting. I never particularly found it got easier, but was always relieved that it never got too hard that I couldn't cope with it! I guess on that basis, it got easier.

I have to confess I have lapsed and not run much over the past couple of months. I'm definitely getting back on it in the new year. Good luck 😊
