Week 2 run 1

Just completed wk2 run 1 and was dreading it! First 2 runs seemed fine on 3rd run a car soaked us (I run with my white dog)! After that I struggled with the 90 secs but did good 60 secs on the last ones! Does this seem about right for where I am? (minus the soaking) I do believe in karma!

Minus the soaking it all sounds like you are doing great, and the car would have put you off your stride a bit, without that you could well have run all the 90 second parts, it doesn’t take much to put us off our stride, in the early weeks we are so focused on the programme, later you may have just walked a bit and had a grumble then ran on but the programme insists we keep going in a pattern

Think about why you couldn’t run for 90 seconds for the last ones, puffing and panting? achey legs? if either of these have a little chat with your white dog and slow down for the next run

I do go in a bit it’s my first day off work for a week and i’m more than a bit excited.... at my age honestly will i ever become sedate? i doubt it all the time i can run

Thank you. Puffing a lot, overloaded when they were talking about breathing- i was concentrating on running then tried the counting- have decided to park the counting and breathing until I am more confident in the running! A bit overwhelm I think then a good splashing which I wasn’t expecting! I want to get to the stage where o want to go out and run at the moment I am the stage where it is mind over matter I want to do it as I know it will be a benefit in the long run but want to be enjoying it!! People like you inspire me as you are enjoying it! Thank you! Merry Christmas !

Done it! Found the first two runs ok but the rest tough. Proud of myself for completing it😀

You're doing great. You'll always get someone who thinks it's funny to soak us while passing in their car but just brush it off and keep running.

Have a rest day and do this run again until you can complete all the 90 second runs. You can repeat any run or week you need to .

Don't ever dread any run, that is so counterproductive.

This may help healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

You have made a wise decision, re the breathing, keep it simple.

Slow down to a pace at which you can speak clear ungasping sentences as you run.

You care doing great.

Ok probably dread is the wrong word! It’s the will I be able to make it doubt and how long until this is something I really look forward to doing! At the moment it’s something I want to do for all the benefits it brings just not sure I would say enjoying it yet! Thank you, I have read all the information but may need to keep re reading as I go! Have a lovely Christmas and thank you for support will be our again on Boxing Day!

The post above is specifically about mental attitude.................just saying you dreaded a run has an effect on your approach..........positivity really does work wonders......give it a read.

Congratulates you’re doing great. It’s always a pleasure but not always easy running with a dog 🐕. Mine’s a Parson Jack Russel mongrel who jumps up & down & puts his muddy paws 🐾 on me whilst running. Should have named him Tigger! Highly entertaining for everyone else but difficult if trying to concentrate on breathing techniques! Suggest you slow down as your body & mind are adjusting to your new regime. Stick with it as we’ve all struggled at times & trust in this fantastic life-changing program. Enjoy your running 👍😊

Thank you!the dog is the one that keeps me going- not sure she knows what has hit her really!! She is more of a lap dog but lovely nature and goes at me pace! Definately the motivator when I want to slow down!!

They’re great companions. Always start our run with him running alongside bouncing up & down on his excitement putting his muddy 🐾 on me. For an old dog of 13 he’s full of energy, runs ahead looks back at me as if to say come on get a wiggle on. He’s fitter & healthier & both of us love this running malarkey. Stick with it & don’t be discouraged by idiotic car drivers. May not seem it but you are the winner. Your active, outside, energised & are running with your best friend. 👍😊

I've only really got to the end of week 3 so far and the thing I'm still trying to get my thick head around is to RUN SLOWLY! I was a step counter in the early weeks too, I used that as a way of encouraging myself once I was half way through the runs, but as the time became longer I found the (relatively) huge number of steps I'd got to go a daunting prospect. I was also bursting out 1 - 2 - 3 etc. as I was really going way too fast (and certainly couldn't have held a conversation!) Now my running pace is actually no faster than my walking pace, but this enables me to go for much longer. Keep at it, you're doing fine. C25K is a wonderful process and as you move through the weeks you'll be looking back amazed how one time you used to struggle to run for 90 seconds! As the others have said, just do this in your own time, let it take as long as it takes to get the full runs completed, any you don't complete are just practices, and practice makes perfect! Keep posting on here too, you will get lots of encouraging support from this community.

Well done. Sounds to me like you're doing great.

The program really does work. But dont worry about pace. In other words, maybe slow down a bit and I think you'll be absolutely fine. :-)
